Thread: What charger do I need for my new battery pack?

Question What charger do I need for my new battery pack?

Hey I just got this 9.6v 1400mAh battery pack for my Kyosho Mini Inferno ST.

I was just wondering what charger I need to get to charge it.

I have a AC/DC Adapter for an airsoft gun with the same plug as the battery pack..
    Can I use that one?
Here are the info on it.
    Model: TY 18(35EC)
    Input: AC220v.50Hz
    Output: DC 7.2v 220mA

So I see that this adapter output 7.2v but can I still use that to charge the 9.6v pack?

If not can someone tell me what type of charger I need to get.
Someone showed me a charger they had in a web shop but I cant buy that one because it would not work with the Norwegian power grid.
I need to buy one from a Norwegian web shop so it works here but I don't know what to search for.
Do the type of charger that I need have a name?

    Thanks.

There are a lot of choices, from cheap peak chargers to high end computerized chargers. My opinion: invest in a good charger which is able to charge nimh packs and the now popular LI-PO 's. This is a good choice orthis . IT chargers a kind of batteries and it is not too expensive. Hope this has answered your question.

The problem is that I dont have much money right now.
    Can I use a simple AC/DC adapter.
You know the ones that you get with all toys and stuff that have a battery pack in them.

Like the one in the picture that I got with an airsoft gun.
That one has the same plug as the battery pack.
But the batterypack is 9.6v and this adapter has Output: DC 7.2v 220mA.

    Can I use it?

If not, can I use one with 9.6v output (if I can find one)?

I have been looking on some pages on the net about charging battery packs but none of the pages say anything about what voltage to use. So I guess you need to give the bettery the same voltage as it outputs or what?

    Please help.
    Thanks.

To be honest: NO! This is a trickle-charger for nimh/nicad. The batteries we use are developed for r/c applications like cars. Therefor they are made for fast-charging. The Intellect batts on the first page are made for charging at 2 amp or 2,5 amp charging zo you have the most voltage ( the more voltage the more revs your motor will spin) and the most milli-amps ( runtime) it will give. I use for my 1/10 car Intellect 4200mah and we charge them on 6amp. This will give me about 6 minutes runtime in my 1/10 touringcar (4wd) with 11 turn single motor (topspeed is 85-90km/u)

Ok thanks for helping me understand
I guess I have to wait til I get some more money then.
And use AA betterys for now.
I hate takeing them inn and out of the stupid battery holder.
    Anyway.
I'll try and get one of the two you recommended.
I think I'll get the one with the lowest price.
Witch will not be wary low anymore after paying import duty (I think thats like US $15 - $25) and VAT (witch is 25% if the item price).

    Thanks for the help.

I use this charger, it does ethier 8 cells (Nicd and Nimh) and 1-3 cell lipos. It is definitely worth the $90 in my book.

for $90 dollars, wouldnt a triton charger be better than that? 1-24 NICAD or NIMH and 1-4 LI PO/ION. those are better numbers.

Yes, but with this charger, you don't end up buying an $80 power supply too.

I just got myself a Duratraxx Intellipeak Deluxe Charger.

I was thinking of charging the packs as slow as possible at 0.5A.

The Charger is also able to trick charge (0.1A).

What is the right thing to do charge a new pack ?
