    Default speed 400 motor

    i just want to know why speed 400 4.8V for the inferno instead of those speed 400 6V higher? what's the diffrence?

    the speed 400 4.8 v is ment to run on 4.8 v. when you over volt it you over volt it more than the 6v 400. the differance is in the winding i beleive. the 4.8 is ment to give good porformance on 4.8v the 400 6v is ment to give good performance on 6v. so if you ran an extra cell on the 6v it would probobly be the same as the 4.8v. did i make it to confusing? if so wait for another person.

    aircraft motors are often rated in voltage as it is more expensive to dyno it and give an rpm/vlt rating. The difference between those two motors is indeed the number of turns. Each motor has whats called a nominal voltage which is usually + or - 1-2 volts from the motors rating.

    As Moose said.. "the number of turns".. but also the gauge of wire used for the windings is smaller on a lower voltage motor. A motor rated for 4.8v will scream at 9.6v.. but it wont last very long...

    I see those rocket 400 motors are only around $8.. so if you fry it.. its about the same cost as replacing your glow plug and fuel line on an 1/8th scale - which isnt normally considered a big deal.

    I have yet to run my HALF8.. I got the AON4900 brushless and Mamba25 esc.. I just ordered a thunder power 11.1v 2100mah lipo... I hope this thing doesnt disappoint.

    Has anyone here tried both brushless and brushed motors for racing offroad? I used to have a Mamba in my Mini-T and hated it offroad (way too fast). If someone has any thoughts let me know.

    i used the mamba 5400 in my old mini t and it was great. i used a gp 5 or 6 cell pack. before i had the mamba i used a trinity mass termination on 7 cells and it would do prety good but run time was non existant.

    I had the most luck with that Trinity motor (when the brushes wern't hanging up). The track I raced at last year was a little small and was carpet. I didn't care for the "feel" of the mamba.. hopefully this time will be different. I always had a problem with cogging. It might have been because I bought the Mamba as soon as it came out and there may have been some bugs in the software or maybe it was my batteries.. who knows. My Mini-T was crazy fast on the street.. but I just couldn't get it to work right at the track.

    mamba is not a good match for the half eight.

    I know.. thats why I got the AON4900. But like I said before.. I haven't used it yet. What do you run for a motor and battery??
