I got a new half 8 coming. With 2 bills to spend on hop ups what would you get? Go straight to a motor and esc set up? Or just do the ebay deal and get the 75 dollar hop up set from GPM? Plus a chassis. Any thoughts I need to get rid of some stuff first

Damn wrong place. Can a Mod move this to "Hop Ups" please?

1. Kyosho oil shocks 60$
2. 3R bearings 7$
3. 3R shock towers 18$
3. 3R steering block 11$
4. Mamba 25 esc 70$
5. AON 4900 60$
6. Hitec HS-85MG 30$
= 256$

More than 200$ but if you have to have the best....:)

...DONE :D 200 buckaroos? KYOSHO oil shox, URC battery of your choice, BOCA Bearings...The shox will get you a MUCH better ride...URC is your powerplant and BOCA will keep it all going like it should be...then you can start replacing stuff as it breaks...You will probably do your front knuckles first ;) Just dont lose the screws...

...EDIT: BlackHawk beat me to the punch...Yeah you will probably lose your front tower right off the bat so grab one of those too...

Bit what boca bearings do you reccommend? All I saw was a huge price tag! Are they worth it?

No rims. Or nothing with the slipper? I wont be racing(for now at least) just running around the house and golf course. Something about screws stripping somewhere also? SHould I worry about that as well? Should I stick with Nimh and stay away from Lipos in the Half 8? Something about it being designed for nimh not lipos.

Um you can use the stock wheels/tires for awhile. I would wait till Proline comes out with some. As for the slipper do the Bithed mod....you can find it if you search. I would stick with some GP1100's instead of LiPo.

but the real question here is what would you do for a Klondike Bar (copyright simbol). :D

BitHed

...the slipper mod is easy...take out the bushings you replace with wheel bearings and seal the slipper...Thats ZERO dollars right there...Sure you can go lipo...Again URC will look after you in that department but if you run lipos ina flat STOCK H8 you will break it...I thought we were talking about initial mods on a budget and what we could do for that amount...Rims? Sure you can change them from the get go but go THROUGH your stock rims first...That would make better use of your 200 smackas

Everyone will have their own opinions as to what YOU should do with YOUR car. Here is another one for YOU.

Get some GP1100's or some IB1200's, oil shocks (either Kyosho, 3R, etc.), and put some black electrical tape on the bottom of the steering knuckles (to catch the screw and washer).

Put the rest of the money in the bank, run the H8 a few times, and you will know what you want to improve on. Set the car up for your situation. The surface I run on and my driving style will differ from yours and so will everyone elses.

Good Luck!!!

...oh Wartown you big grumpy weasel you :D We are the pioneers brother...We had to find out what works so we can pass that onto the newer generation of H8 users :D Blah blah blah...Yes the H8 will suck your beer money for a while...and like Crymynal says...DONT lose the front knuckle screws!!

Just being real my brother. You know just like i do with the trouble of the front end of this thing. And yes i have had tape on the front knuckles for months now. I have replaced the knuckles and c-hubs. i also have the titanium pins and screws. They fall out anyway.

Sorry i forgot Bit. It makes sense now. You sell parts. :)

BLACKHAWK444

So you are using aluminum for the knuckles and C-hubs?

wartown
10-05-2005, 09:40 PM
Yeah i got everything to try and prevent them from falling out. i also use loc-tite. I run a on a dirt track with some small jumps. They dont come out every lap but usually after 4 or 5 battery packs.

even with the alloy front knuckles and c hubs the screws will still fall out!?! That kind of sucks hugh? The 3r shocks look affordable but I really dont want to have to run the car with tape on the front. If I loctight the screws with the alloy parts wouldn't that help?

Mine have not fallen out and I am using the stock steering setup....

Having been in your shoes I will recommend what to yet:

1. Aluminum knuckles (must have, I stripped the prastic ones right away)
2. 3Racing oil shocks (must have, the stock springs are HORRIBLE)
3. Aluminum front shock tower (people say they break, dunno)
4. Bearings for the hubs (I don't like the idea of plastic bushings)
5. 8-cell GP 1100 battery pack (Good battery pack, United R/C has a couple of different battery packs, Sport, Race, Xtreme)
6. Heatsink for the motor (not sure how hot the stock one gets, but at $3US, why not)
7. X-Speed, Rocket 400, or Graupner 400 motor for extra speed (I have problems with the ESC overheating when using the Graupner 400 4.8volt with 8-cells though)

That shouldn't run you more than $100. If you like you can use the remainder to get a rear shock tower, some eye candy carbon, etc. etc.

i have done everything. i have replaced almost everything on this truck. i use a brushless motor. the buggy runs great WHEN it is running. It just takes a lot of work. Something breaks every other week. I have a brushless t4 that i never have to do anything to.

Kyosho shocks are worth the money.

Not sure why they would be worth $40US more than the 3racing ones. I received my 3racing ones yesterday and they're awesome. Nice finish, smooth, and well designed.

Trust me and lots of people on the forum...kyosho shocks are worth the money...Also wartown are you serious? My H8 is built like a tank. I bash the heck out of it and it asks for more. Maybe you got an older model...

wartown

Maybe i did. I got one of the first one's they had on ebay about 6 months ago. I will keep working on this buggy. like i said "it's great when its running". This thing has serious issues. I just wish it was built better.
