I'm looking for an ESC that will handle 9.6 volts, cost $50 or less, and fit under the body without clearance issues.

I've found these two, but do you guys know of any others?

...LRP does their NEW AI series units in micro versions...very well priced and size shouldnt be an issue...I recommend the MIDDLE unit...not the basic one or the advanced one....Should keep you happy with all the bells and whistles and easier to set up than peeling a banana :D

you can use an esc rated to 8.4 with no issues. Remember, most esc's are rated for much higher amp draw for 1/10 motors...you are drastically reducing the amp draw with the micro motors and therefore can use more voltage. Most people are running esc's that aren't rated for 9.6 volts without any issues....the Futaba MC230CR is a good choice

True, I used a GM-Racing V3 and a LRP-Micro A.I. before upgrading to brushless - both had not problems at all with various 400-sized motors. That LRP esc is pretty small and waterproof - not bad for the halfEight if you play in the mud sometimes :D

Well, I guess I'll use a Novak Explorer II I've had laying around for awhile. It's kind of big, but it'll fit. Maybe later I'll pick up that Futaba. Thanks for the help everyone. :)
