Took my H8 to the local park today for a run with my EB4 and some other cars. Halfway through the first battery pack my pinion stripped...again, 2nd time it has happened

I've got an Aon 4900 sitting at the LHS to replace the Mamba 8000 I use currently so what pinions do I get that are going to survive more than a handful of runs running that motor and Atomic slipper gears?

with the Mamba try some HPI Micro RS4 Steel pinions...

I think the orion ones are brass and weak and some others.

Picture for you all to have a good laugh at :D
I've now picked up my Aon 4900Kv so I just need some robust pinions and I'm set...I hope

use the stock slipper, I run the 4900 with an 8cell and have not stripped it. metal on metal contact is not needed unless you constantly stip gears.

Yeah maybe I will put the stock slipper gear back in there. I'll try and source some stell Micro RS4 pinions as well and see what happens :D

What size pinions are most people on the Aon 4900 using?

i had the same problem with atomic metal gear...use the stock slipper to resolve the problem...

If I do that will it not end up shredding the standard slipper instead?

no, unless its a bad mesh or locked slipper+nasty jumps. It takes abuse or tons of power to shred a gear. You should be fine...most people are

I agree-the bigger of the atomic slipper gears stripped my stock pinion gear. Then, when I got the AON 4900 I installed it with a HPI 13 tooth steel pinion. This was working fine until I landed hard trying to clear a 20 foot gap jump and must have shifted the motor for a second because a small section of my big slipper gear got chewed up. But the HPI pinion was fine so I re-installed the bigger stock plastic gear and i've had no problems since-I also think it feels smoother and is a little quieter as well! :)

P.S. I installed a fresh Atomic slipper pad when I did this!

...i tell you mate that AON moves even a little bit and it chews whatever is in its way...lol...we could make a horror movie with it...I will get Tom Cruise to play me ;) Speaking of Tom Cruise maybe i SHOULD put my stock units back in...maybe that will at least make my H8 RUN properly  Of course I have absolutely NO clue of the connection between Tom Cruise and my slipper
