...Stock rims / tires are listed at 64mm high and 25mm wide...

...Essentially this is 1:10 size...They sit on a 3mm axle and fit with a hex hub...I have issues with the following...

1: I dont think the rears will be wide enough...
2: I dont want to be restricted to halfEIGHT rims...
3: I want to use black 1:10 rims...
4: I want a wider selection of tires...
5: Existing 1:18 rims / tires are quite smaller...

...I am searching for 'options' but i need some help...

...what are these rim sizes in USA sizes...im metric

BitHed:

You are looking for offroad tires/rims combo?

65mm is around 2.6in
25mm is around 1in

What about 1/10 4WD buggy tires/rims? But i think they don't use hex... which maybe hard to adapt them on the H8 axles.

...Mono all of Japan is hex...KYOSHO, TAMIYA, HPI...its the 3mm axle which is the headache...local adaptors SHOULD have that covered though...

...Yeah I am looking at 1:10 rims, buggy, sedan etc etc...

...Thanks for those sizes...So what the hell is a 2.2?

MonoTuning

Yes, i think Losi and Associate off road cars don't use hex and their axle/pin size is different than TC too...

I believe 2.2 is the width of the rim of EP off road buggies.

...after just a little research last night i have now bogged myself into a hole...I am getting confused and I feel like i should just deal with the stock rims and leave them...All the sizes are different, tire type will change the diameter, some are 12mm hex and some are pin...Its back to the drawing board i think...I will post some results later though...for now here is the exploded view of the ankle :)

Depending on the application, some 24 or 26mm TC hoops may work (as long as you can get the correct axle and hex size), you can get HPI rally tires for offroading. But some hex adaters would be great for those who run on carpet (like myself).

...The average 1:10 axle will be 4mm...many 1:18's are 3mm...Mini Z are 2mm...The rim might fit but there will be a litle sideways play...TAMIYA actually does a shock attachment which fits nicely...its a little flanged brass eyelet...works nice at taking out the rattle...I also personally swear by flanged wheel nuts...PanicToys will be listing 'RockNuts' for the MinFerno too ;) STill lots of research to do on new shoes though...Speaking of which the Summer Victoria's Secret catalogue arrived last nght ;)

...I think so...but there was nothing that really took my fancy...it was all too small for me anyway

...KYOSHO has said that the stock tires 'are good for any surface'...but i would rather have options than be dictated too you know what i mean? So the search continues...

...12mm hex with a 3mm axle hole...Thats all i ask...but if you look closely at the exploded you will see what i mean...it looks like you could REPLACE the stock hex with a 'normal' 1:10 hex...or am i just wishful thinking?

chrille

I think also that the original hex can be replaced with a 1:10 one, but then you got the problem with that the H8 axel is 3mm and the hole in the 1:10 hex is 4mm! :( It`s probebly just to wait for someone to do a adapter...

BitHed

...Chrille thats it exactly!! It is SUCH a simple fix...All we need is someone with access to unlimited amounts of 1mm walled 3mm brass pipe...

chrille

Well, when i get my H8 i just MUST try to put on a 12mm hex and som distance betwen the hole in it and the axel, just to drive with my TC wheels! :)

Back to the wheels. After Bit posted that info on 1/18th...I was thinking Rally TC tires would be perfect for the H8.

...Finally these are the HPI rally ones which came up on another forum which i have TWO of...These are 26mm WIDE (the hE is 25mm) and 68mm HIGH (the hE is 64mm)

interesting choice.

mine will likley remain an on road buggy so something along the lines of the ralley tires would be good for me

That sounds very cool BitHead! :) But i think that mine car will have the stock wheels on, except when i`m running on carpet, then i will use my TC wheels! (If i`ll get an hex adaptor), but it would be awsome with rally wheels on it! :)

...thanks hE...funny how all this stuff i originally did for myself is now benefitting the world ;) Im so lucky to have a place called 'HOME'

...yup...chunky radials which are happy on-road where they will spend MOST of thier time, but will still be comfortable getting dirty :)

I think an 1/10th scale rim should work... if you have a way to make the hole smaller... or just make adapters.

What do you think of a piece of paper? LOL! :D Just kidding with ya...

Seriously now, i have looked on my hexes and figured out that with a small piece of carbon fiber tube it might work! Now i just need an H8 to test it on, anyone ho has one over? ;)

that sounds greate BitHead! :) I really want an adaptor because i`m gonna race on carpet, and got alot of TC wheels which i think would be outstanding on carpet! I`m really waiting for the pictures... :)

I was reading R/C Car Action this morning and a saw some kind of hex adaptors for cars like the HPI Savage etc. to fit bigger wheels... it was some sort of adaptor that fits over the standard hex...

Trying to figure out why i posted this...

ohw well... maybe it can give some ideas :p

chrille
03-28-2005, 05:53 PM
That sounds good Icey.Apple, but i think that it`s for bigger rims then 1:10, so it would not work for the H8... :(

Icey.Apple
03-28-2005, 07:04 PM
I know ;) but the idea is a good one :)

chrille
03-28-2005, 07:34 PM
Yes, it`s a good idea! But i think it`s eaven greater if it comes some kind of other hex adaptors that replaces the stock ones. And when it comes, i`ll but 4 of them!! :)

Is it aluminum made?

BitHed
04-03-2005, 03:46 PM
...nope...those particular rims are plastic...the stub axle on the MinFerno is quite short so i cant use Proline Dirt Hawgs or Mini T stock rims either...Even if i could I couldnt because of the pathetic little hex hub..im REALLY peeved about that...

i dont have a H8, and probably never will, but here are my thoughts. if you can find/make/swap the hex to fit 1:10 wheels/tires you have no need to worry about the axel hole difference in the wheel. when the hex is incerted into the wheel and wheelnut tightened the hex will hold the wheel centered on the axel. heres what i say do, create a ceramic mold of a 1:10 hex (?mm) with a 4mm brass tube incerted through the center as a "dummy" axel. after removing the 1:10 hex from the mold (leaving the axel) use a dremmel to grind the 4mm tube down flush with the surface of the mold. now incert a 3mm brass tube through the 4mm tube. the 3mm tube fits perfectly inside the 4mm b/c the walls are .5mm thick, making it 3mm inside, and 4mm outside ;) now drop the stock H8 hex over the 3mm tube and make sure it rests flat on the bottom, now just fill with epoxy and wait to harden, the epoxy will easily break loose from the brass with a little twist of some pliars, and there you have your adapter, or rather a modified set of Hexi, which should be readily available to the open market as small chassis parts set.

coming up with this conclusion was easy, you should try to figure out how to mount 1:10 buggy wheels/tires on a Mini Quake. The MQ wheels use a totally different type of coupling. for those of you who own mini-z's, the wheel hub looks like the potentiometer end of the first servo gear (where the steering POT is incerted) and the axel looks like the brass piece on the steering POT. you figure that one out :p

IHTH02Y Micro Block Tire w/ Yellow Rims

i am thinking these will look more like the tires i added to the attachment, mor like a pin tire but wider pins? this is also known as a split block tire, the ones pictured are for the Mini Quake they are 48mm wide and 68mm tall, the will fit the wide 1:10 wheel, standard 1:10 wheels are 25mm wide, these fit the 34mm wide wheels, they are hard to find in the touring car industry and are meant to widen a 190mm car out to 200mm without the much higher cost of lengthened upper/lower arms and CVD's
