Hi all,

Funny no one have ever brought up the problem of waterproofing the central diff -or have I missed a thread?-. My H8 rocks, but my only problem is sand and tiny pebbles getting into the diff and smashing the teeths of the central wheel.

Has anyone encountered that problem? Has anyone found a solution?

I know mechanics use a kind of plastic paste to create new washers from scratch when rebuilding an old engine for which original washers are no longer available -tipically for a washer that goes between two parts of the gearbox casing for example-. The paste solidifies after a few minutes and becomes a washer.

I'm thinking about using that stuff to waterproof my central diff but I wasn't able to locate it on the Net. Anyone who is into classic cars or bikes know where to find the stuff?

Thanks!

I would try ebay or an online autoparts store. I have some of that but don't remember where it came from. You could probably just use hot-glue for the same purpose though too.

I know the stuff you're talking about, I used to have some - but no idea what it's called. Cool idea though, let us know if you figure anything out! :)

I think the stuff you're looking for is called something like "liquid gasket". 3-M or Loctite probably manufacture this. It's used to completely seal gaskets for engine valve covers for example.

Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for. Just need to find a place in France/Europe where that stuff is available for sale, but that shouldn't be a problem as Loctite products are available here.
