this is an 8cell setup with a speed 400 4.8 "rocket" motor.
Fast enough for most tracks.

It's pretty fast !! :)

Let me some questions...

How many time can you drive with a 8 cells pack?

Are you getting heat problems?

Can this motor work with the original esc?

thanks

Awsome!!! How is this motor compared to the Kyosho X-speed or the standard Speed 400?

The reason I ask is that the Speed 400 series motor is not to be found anywhere locally here. So I might order these babies online.

Thanks!

I have not compared it to anyother motors so far...I have a 4.8 400 graupner at my LHS to try but I am holding off until friday. The motor still gets hot but not as hot as the 400 or xpeed. I am using a heatsink on it too which may help slightly, but I haven't noticed. It will run about 15-20 I suppose but I tend not to let it run until it dies.

Just checked the motor temp after running on dirt for about 15-20 minutes and it read 162 F. Hot to the touch but not anything to worry about.

patience and diligence. Take everything apart when you get it and reassemble it taking care to check gear mesh and clearances. The half8 has some sloppy drivetrain pieces so take your time to make sure everything rotates freeley. I have probably spent a pathetic amount of time working with the drivetrain on this car so it doesn't click or "lump" in any spots.

I can totally relate to what mOOsE is saying. I think I spent almost an entire day rebuilding the diffs....I went as far as filing the teeth to make sure they were smooth.....

It's still up to the standard I want, but I'm too fed up with it...just gonna let it run like that....pretty sure things will smooth itself out later.

This message is to moose. Do you know whats the unsafe heat or temp limit for a motor?

i'd think 170 or any higher would be too hot...well...175-180*F or any higher would be too hot..because thats the temp a nitro car runs..lol

nitro runs 200-250
Elec ideal temps are up to 160/170 ish* And when the metal becomes more dense, it creates a higher resistance for the electricity to travel through. The most common failure from heat is the brushes. Not only do they get dense, the harder surface will wear the comm faster and create a worse connection. The wire in the armature can do the same thing. So basically, the hotter the harder and colder the softer. So keeping it cold won't hurt anything.
That parts for you Bit ;)
