HELLO HALF 8 FANATICS

It's nice to have a single thread that has all good quality Half 8 pics that owners are proud of, to display their latest pride and joy. Let me kick it off with some pics I took after a really good thrashing on a wet clay based track.

We all know, the digi cams come out when we hit the track/park/field, take the pics off your hard drive and dump em' here. Just make sure the photos are resized, not all members here have the latest 21 inch LCD display, you see. :p

That's no water vapour under the clear lexan, went through many a puddle.

Mini-Me trying to mount a coconut tree. Even with 4 wheel drive, you aint climbing that little man.

Hope you liked the pics. Do add your own photos here.

Cheers,

Nice pics, but I thought that was what the "gallery" was for

The gallery feature is nice but this thread will allow a direct link, so you do not have to refer people to your gallery everytime you want them to oogle at your mini devil, plus it is also less tedious if all the great pics were at the one spot.

As for abuse, I actually feel bad for my near new Half 8, should had waited till the track dried, it was a semi swamp, but it was great fun.

Cool thread idea mnb; you can also upload your pics to your Gallery, and then link to them as inline pics FYI. :)

MnB, you can still link directly to the thread, you'd just upload them to the Gallery (http://halfeight.com/gallery) and use that URL instead of users.bigpond.net.au. ;)

Duratrax.

Man by chance did you go to RCX lol they were giving out those videos you have in the background for free at ehobbies when you bought somthing...Oh and how do you like that Nomadio radio?
Yes, I was at RCX 2005 (and RCX 2004 too). I was wearing a black Mini-Z-Racer hat. I was also going to demo my brushless Kyosho Mini-Inferno with the Nomadio Sensor but there were issues.

First, one of the California dealers informed me that he would have replacement parts for me by the time I arrived--a new spur gear and new tires. They didn't arrive in time. Ultimate Hobbies was also closed at both its old and new locations--the owner was even at RCX on Saturday. Kyosho America was also no help since they claimed to only have enough parts for their demos. Later I spoke to one of the design engineers, but it was too late by then anyway. Consequently, I purchased the second Kyosho Mini-Inferno and tore it apart for parts.

Then there was an issue between Castle's Mamba-25 speed control and the Nomadio transceiver. The quick fix was to modify the speed control, which the staff at Castle was willing to do but we couldn't locate a solder iron with a small enough tip. To make a long story short, I didn't demo, Nomadio modified their transceiver, and then overnighted me a replacement. In hindsight, I probably should have just yanked the transceiver unit out and re-installed the JR RS300 I had in it since I could have at least ran it on some channel.

Ironically, I must have been the first person to use the Nomadio Sensor with the Mamba-25 since Nomadio was unaware of the issue. So much for the Nomadio beta testers--Perhaps, I'll get a response out of one of the forum members. However, kudos to both the staff at Nomadio and Castle Creations for their help and quick response. The Dremel staff also notched my Kyosho Mini-Inferno chassis since I am still using the larger Nomadio transceiver unit until the "free" smaller transceiver unit arrives--one of the transceiver units is going into my Mugen mbX5 or so that is my plan so far. Who knows, I may simply install the transciever unit in my Mugen and run it Friday night.

Over all, I like the feel of the Nomadio though I have yet to install all the sensor units. However, it doesn't have a brake mix or any other mixing options like my Futaba T3PK. I have already been in contact with Nomadio about this and provided them with more detailed information and reiterated that if they way to attract the 1/5th scale crowd, it is necessary to upgrade the Nomadio (hardware or software) if they want to compete against something like the Futaba T3PK since the T3PK has a brake mix, boat mix, and two other programmable mixes. Hopefully, it will just be a software update.

By the way, I haven't even watched the tapes and there are numerous photos I took at RCX in Gallery TNB. Check both the RCP Tracks Album and the RCX Album--the RCP Track photos have been separated and grouped into the general RCP Tracks Album.

LOL... thanks

BTW.. the way these adaptor work is... there is a little tube that pokes out of the wheel side of the adaptor that allows the 3mm axle to come through the middle while the outside of the tube is 4mm... and the whole "tube" thing is flush with the wheel's face and it lets just enough of thethread poke through so you can grab it with the nut

After a little over two months, I guess it is official. The Kyosho Mini-Infernos are finally part of the R/C family and have been allowed to take up some shelf space of their own--part of a shelf anyway though I still haven't put the yellow back together.

Because you're too lazy to clean it unless you count driving through the grass with the water sprinklers on. ;) My original Mini-Inferno looked sort of like that when it was stock. Notice the tree?

http://www2.mini-zracer.com/albums/album647/H8_4.jpg

Then it toured the on-road track.

http://www2.mini-zracer.com/albums/album647/H8_7.jpg

And then it went brushless and started hitting the 1/8th scale off-road track. Of course, it still gets a bath. :p

Water sprinklers you say? Hehe....nah I went to an 1/8 offroad track and it had rained a few days prior. Now I was so upset that the clay base didn't dry up that I just couldn't be bothered and drove through the many puddles and fried the ESC in the process. Now it's sitting on the desk. The pics were taken at home prior to me washing it. You can still see the wet clay soil on the lexan.
My bad. Hmmm...need AON brushless with new ESC soon damnit. Oh wait and new servo....damn you Kyosho, cheap skate.

I like those wheels Akura2 but I can't find any offroad buggy type tires to mate with them. Not sure the rally tires would work in a offroad loamy or rough track.
I still like the wheels though

true... I plan on running mine on packed blue groove at the local indoor off-road track so the rally rubber might work great... but if someone made some pin spikes, fuzzies, bowties or knobbies in 1/10 scale for 2-inch 24mm wheels, I'd be golden..

edit*... these might work great of you can still find them... the old school HPI rally tires in 24mm 1/10 scale

akura2
06-08-2005, 03:44 AM
.5x8:...The rims are Yokomo 12-spoke zero offset 24mm.. I got them from Speed Shop RC on Sepulveda in Torrance, CA

Bithed: for the dish wheels, I use the Yokomo precision discs..(or the regular ones)... the webbing on the back side is really shallow and doesn't hit anything even at full steering lock

Hawk: I think those tires are still available directly from HPI at www.HPIracing.com in their "buyHPI" section... I'm waiting to get an email from some of my buddies over at HPI and see if they are still available or not... if so ...those would be a great alternative in the loamy stuff (they even look like the stock Kyoshos a little... but more aggressive)

im still wondering how you get the wheel on without it being all wobly because the 1/10 wheels have bigger holes where you poke in the screw for the wheel nut...and wouldnt it wobble? or just tighten it nice and tight and its fine?

adrenalinrush123998
06-08-2005, 10:05 AM
dude, the holes ARENT bigger, the axel is the same size as the 1/10 axel, its only the hex thats smaller.....

actually the holes in 1/10 scale rims ARE bigger... the trinity adaptors have a little tube on the wheel side that pokes through the center of the wheel to go from the 3mm axle to the 4mm hole... I'll post a pic of the adaptor when I get to work in an hour

Whats up Akura, after seeing that there wasn't much thread to catch the nut when using the trinity adapters I decided to get my hands dirty and see if I could maybe fix the problem. Since I don't have access to a mill or a machine shop for that matter, I just decided to use good old hand power. I went out to the garage and grabbed an old file I had laying around and went to work. I started grinding the adapters against the file back and forth, making sure i kept the adaptor even against the file. The project actually turned out ok. I only took material off the back side where the adapter hit the hub. Now I have a few more threads. I know it didn't do much but every little bit counts. Check out the pics below...

Um.. just to let you know I actually had to build a 10x8 shed in my yard. My wife thought it was for extra storage but it actually became my work room with like 3/4 of it filled with rc stuff.I had a fleet of 25 cars a one time, may not seem like alot to some but with little room they take alot of space. I have toned it down a bit now. The shed has a tv, radio, and when my wife gets on my nerves I haul in my xbox or ps2 and avoid her in there. :) I'll have to get some pics of it when I get a chance, but since my house is being remodeled I am not staying there at this time.

They are on backorder everywhere... I got mine way back when. If you can't find those you can always try the mod posted in this thread....
