Hi everyone,

I want to go brushless but I’m not ready to go Lipo yet and would like to stick to my 6-cell Nihm 2,500mah batteries for a little while.

Being a complete brushless-beginner it looks like the best bet would be one of the Mamba combos.

What I want is more punch and topspeed than my X-Speed motor, while maintaining good runtimes –20/25 minutes would be great- :)

So what combo should I use?

4200 Sport Combo?
5400 Performance Combo?
6800 Competition Combo?
8000 Competition X Combo?

Let me know what you think based on your experience. Thanks!

My personal opinion: only 6800kv or above are worthy. I ordered 8000kv my self.

My logic: price of 8000kv = 6800kv. I can limit the speed of 8000kv with my Transmitter (i.e. when weather is too hot or track has many tight corners) but I cannot increase the speed with 6800kv that way.

How can you limit the speed on your transmitter? Maybe this is a real dumb question but.. well.. sounds awesome so i would like to know...

Simple, don't pull the trigger all the way. Add a small piece of rubber behind the trigger if really needed. :p

I'm personally running the 6800 kv. It gives me all that I need, and sometimes a little more. :D I thought about going for the 8000 kv but was afraid that it would be hard on the plastic drivetrain. After I got mine I started playing with the USB connector and Mambalink software. You can setup you throttle and break curves. This is very COOL. With this kind of control through a laptop I probably would do it over again and by the 8000 Kv. Just my opinion.

Now... that makes a lot more sense e sounds way more interesting then the "finger tip/piece of rubber" device lol :D

Thanks for your comments!

I just ordered a 6800 combo along with the USB connector.

And BTW, also ordered a spy cam to put on my H8; I have a laptop with TV scaner so it's gonna be fun driving my little monster that way... :)

Will post some movies when I get the cam.

Hey MD it would be a great cooling advantage to get a good heat sink and the alloy motor mount for the 6800 as well ... I have had some lenghty phone calls with the guys from Castle and they say that a 10 to 11 tooth pinion is about as high as we should go on the Half 8 ...
