Yup, I knew you'd like it! I enjoy mine very much. Now get a clear lexan undertray from BlueGrooveRacing and put some velcro on the sides so you can attach your body that way.

Ps. Use the servo saver from the xray M18 series.....

Thomas, the MIP CVD's are the BEST but their Steel Outdrives have not worked well for me. They crack also. What diffs are you using, the ST ones or the steel ones from the 09?

Thomas P

Thats what i wanted to hear Morati :D..Hmm, Diffs are ST, running Steel Atomic...working super.

Cant wait to get the MIP´s.. wont be drivning this one before i get the MIPs.

LOL :D:D:D, i can imagine (speling) that Morati, i havnt tried a bigge motor yet, i hav eto run a 15-16T piniong with stock spur...now im on 6800 and a 12T piniong, perfect or indoor use, lttle to solw on topspeed or outdoor (1:10 track) but handling is great..

i will fix my Losi MLST wheels this evening, se how they do :)

Thomas, I love the Mini LST wheels (modified) with the Duratrax square pin tires....However, those tires do wear out very fast! I wish Proline made some Bow-Ties or Hole-Shots for this vehicle. I have the parts to change my Truggy back into a Buggy and then I can use the Proline Crimefighters which work GREAT, but the Truggy just handles so much better for me! I am running 60t spur x 12t pinion right now.

I just tested a new motor(havnt recived my new MIP´s yet) just air gas..bough it from unitedhobbies ,a 4400rpm/v 370 class motor. will run 15T/61T, i can feel and see the topsped are a little bit higher, perfect since that was the thing i missed with my 6800/12/61 motor.

to bad there is autum (los of yellow leaf here now..) and RAIN:S...hopfully i can un this one one more thing this year outdoors..then it is time to take the car part and do it ready for indoor use...any tip for good rubbers Morati? carpet is the surface, and we normaly use, holeshot M3, and WD40 for traction.

Carpet huh? Never raced this vehicle on carpet......Do you mean the 2.2inch Holeshots? They are BIG tires!!!!! If the surface is Ozite carpet I would try 1/10th scale touring foams 35 degree to 40 degree to start with. OR, you could try the Modified Mini LST wheels/Duratrax (Anderson) Quake Pin tires. Only problem with those Pin tires is they wear out VERY fast. Here they are...

Very Nice Thomas! Two questions......What has been doen to your stock slipper? I can't see the spring and the retaining nut is different...
Also, has your motor mount been machined? You are getting the pinion to mesh 100% with the spur which is unusual. Most BL motors have a 10mm shaft which only allows for 50% engagement. So either your motor has a 12mm long shaft or your motor mount has been machined (thinned) by 2mm. Which is it.......Thanks!

morati

This is the stock setup Thomas...

Thomas P
09-16-2007, 08:21 PM
HI Morati, i dont know hounestly about the slipper nut, and spri. The prewieus owner that have been hard testing/racing and won every race, have come up to that this is the best.

The mount is only machined a1 mm, just for perfect fit Mesh :).

Ahh thats how it looks, i was woundering, maybe il mail him and ask why no spring..but this setup is woorking sooo good so there is no need at all for a spring.

it is a 12mm shaft

morati
09-16-2007, 09:02 PM
OK Thomas, you were lucky to get such a good setup!
If you do NOT have a spring in the slipper, what is there in its place?

Thomas P
09-17-2007, 05:26 AM
Morati, i dont know :D havnt dismount the slipper yet :D:D. But i will do it propably son, indoor season starts and the car mut be in topshape.

Thomas P
09-17-2007, 09:27 AM
Morati My slipper uses a O-ring and not a spring like yours.

todays parts..

Thanks for the report Thomas.
You will like those MIP CVD's, they really clean up the drivetrain.
I removed my plastic ST diffs in favor of the steel Kyosho MI 09 diffs. So far they are working well after going through four 3-cell lipo packs. (No sign of wear).

Just so you guys know, I got some Maxamps 860mah LiPo's which they made up into custom saddle packs (1720mah at 7.4v) and the fit perfect!

Frogger, Yes I have those same packs in 11.1 volt version. VERY expensive!!!
I will give them a try in the next copule of days. I have to wire them up (actually they came pre-wired, but the leads were too short so I have to solder in some extra wire) in order to make them fit over the center brace of the KM-RC chassis.
BPP has some 300mah 20C (30C burst) packs that could be wired up in parallel to give 1200mah but they are also big $!
We do have alot of options though......Hard to beat those YeahRacing packs at $14 per......

frogger
09-19-2007, 10:18 PM
Yeah, doubt I'll buy the Maxamps again due to cost. Mine cost about $100/pack after shipping and customs :(

My Yeah Racing packs are awesome and was cheap as chips so will be sticking to them.

You guys both running KMRC MIST chassis? I am considering getting one. Is there anything I need to be aware of when ordering? Any extra's needed to make it work? What spares do you carry?

Yes, both of us running the KM-Rc chassis. They tell you to run the diffs in the opposite direction (there is a small divet in the chassis to accomodate the ring gear on the diff from hitting it). You CANNOT run the diffs like this because there is a "tab" inside the gear box that forces the ring/bevel gears to mesh properly. If you take yours apart you will see what I mean. Also, the smallest pinion you can run is a 15t. This IMO is not small enough for some high RPM motors like the Wraith. I run a 12T or 13T so I had to dremel the lower motor mount hole some in order to get proper mesh. The slipper spring they give you is too long so it needs to have two coils removed in order for it to work properly as well. Also there is slop in the steering which needs to be shimmed out.... Get some extra spur gears, the front plastic chassis kick-up piece and some extra hingepin retainers (don't get the carbon ones as they break easily). I run the 09 steel diffs after stripping the stock plastic ST ones on my 3-cell lipo. If you run only 2-cell lipo's or 6-cell NiMH packs, you may be OK. Do a search here and you will find other info from both "MIGS" and "BlueGrooveRacing". They have both helped tremendously to develop these chassis'.

Frogger, i can realy recomend the KM-RC chassi. it is great! the car is quicksteering, and well balanced in the air.

as Mr Morati said about the diffs...they must be turned 180 deg to run..i was ust changhing my last plastic diff (front, little to much sand in the diff..some leak :D ) and started to mount it..nothing worked...Morati describe everything why..to bad i wasnt doing ths today so i ave save about 2h :D:D:D work...

Great suff. My current Inferno is upgraded to the max and have become a bit of a bloater so I am looking at putting together a pure race orientated Inferno that could compete with the RC18 and Blaze buggies.

I have a bucket load of spares, at least enough for another car (assuming I buy the KMRC chassis kit so that's the plan anyway.

I have a set of new 09 metal diffs, steel outdrives, etc. so should be OK.

I also have a Wraith 7K and a Permax 400/4D spare and going by my current Inferno the Permax runs better in this car (plus uses standard Inferno pinions!) so that's what I might go for combined with a Quark 33.

Would you guys say allow towers would compromise the chassis by transfering forces there or would it be ok to run allow shock towers?

This is my car at the moment:

Damn! I just spoke to them before ordering and they said: 'people don't break much on these things so if you really want spares then order a couple of spur gears' :(

How did you break them? Where do you drive your car (outdoors/indoors - carpet/big jumps?)

I am glad you like Yours so much Thomas! When it works, it works well. I have been having troubles with mine. I took it to my outdoor 1/10th scale dirt track this week and ran it against the Stadium Trucks. The track has a pretty big single jump that broke my carbon fiber hingepin braces twice. Then, just before I left the track I clipped a track barrier pretty hard and snapped the KM-RC plastic front piece I was telling you guys about. Canada!? High on my list of places to throw myself of a big mountain while on my mountain bike! :D :D

Morati - I have the T-bone bumper as well but have not fitted it yet. Do you think it adds stress to the front plate that attaches to the chassis? I tried ordering 2 of those plates but they are out of stock at the moment :( Anywhere else to get them?

Frogger, I don't know of anyone else besides KM-Rc themselves that sell that front plate. Just be careful not to hit anything with no "give" and you should be OK for awhile.
Mountainbike huh? I am also a MTB'er. Gave up competitive racing this year after doing it for seven years. Actually I did cyclocross as well and that is where I got my screen name from. "Morati" is the bike I won my first Provincial Championship on. Czech made Ti bikes that are no longer around. Here's my actual 'cross bike............

I ride a Titus Racer-X MTB bike and a Trek OCLV road bike.
Sorry to hi-jack this thread.
I do not think the T-Bone bumper adds any additional stress and actually broke the first two front plates with a regular bumper on my car. The T-Bone is a welcome addition......

FullSize servo

changed my 10 packs BMS380 servo to a fullsize sevo insted. (to bad this one aint so fresh, just for a test)

it works great, lot faster, less mesh...the hight is almost identical,ca still use my Genius @ the same spot. 12L4 saver..

Thomas - I have run a Hitec HS-65MG in my Inferno since day one and can highly recommend it if you want something smaller.

Morati - yep, broken one too many bones recently and the wife is getting on my case about it so I am starting to take it a little easier now too. I'm a bit of a freerider, downhiller, dirtjumper kind of guy. Here is my current favourite ride:

Quick question Morati - do you run alloy arms with your KMRC kit? I was wondering if it could be due to running alloy arms that you are breaking the front plate as it's transferring the stress to the front plate. Any other alloy parts in tha area such as the bulkhead? Or can you think of any other explanation?

No alloy arms. I use the plastic 3Racing ones. Stock Kyosho plastic bulkheads as well. Even the shock towers on my St version are plastic. I use the alloy ones if I run the car as a Buggy though. Never broken an arm or a shock tower. Have broken many bulkheads though. Not exactly sure whats going on. It drives incredible but has been my most fragile car to date. If you hit anything with the front end of the vehicle you DO run the risk of breaking that KM-RC plastic chassis piece. Don't care what those guys say. I told them when the kit first came out, that the gearing was all wrong. You could only run the pinion down to a 15T. they told me 15T was fine and no one wanted to run a smaller pinion. I had to dremel the lower motor mount in order to run my preferred 12t-13t pinions. Next thing you know, they come out with a 70T spur gear (stock is 60T). There are other problems you will come across, but they are all fixable. Just wish KM-Rc would correct the problems at the factory.

Diffs the other way around? Why? They seem to work fine the way the manual says.

Servo's: how did you guys mount your servo's? And which servo's have you found works best?

I have now tried Hitec HS-65MG, HS-65HB, HS-56HB and I am not happy with any of them plus I can't find a reliable servo saver with no slop. Any recommendations? Obviously I want to keep it super light! Is it time to start looking at 1/10 servo's?

I replied to your other thread with regards to servo choice and saver. BlueBird Max 380 servo and Xray M18T servo saver. I provided the links on your other thread in this forum. Shoe-Goo'd the servo into place. Has not let me down yet...
Diffs into the bulkheads in the regular manner due to the tab inside the bulkhead which provides for proper mesh between bevelled ring and pinion gear. If you do a search on this forum, I provided pics of it months back....So have you driven it yet? Any first impressions? Thomas, any more driving for you?

Thanks bud, I've actually got an M18 servo saver here but could never use it due to not having a servo that fitted. I've ordered 2 x Hitec HS-82MG servo's (for the RC18 and Inferno) which should fit that saver.

I am running the GPM alloy bulkheads and metal diffs so it works fine the right way in.

I've only run the car in my living room to test and as I am having servo issues I can't really pass comment at the moment. I am racing it this Friday if I can sort the steering out.

I can't believe it's so hard to find good servo/saver combo's for micro cars. It seems whatever you buy, no matter how much money you spend it's sloppy! :(

It is strong, fast, lightweight and Cheap! Those 4 things rarely go together. My Xray servo saver is slop free as well but there was alot of slop in my steering. I shimmed it out using 4mm x 6mm shims (.1mm work best, the Tamiya ones). Good Luck and let us know how it goes....

Xrays is good, but cant compare with the AE RC12L4 saver for Futaba.

http://www.rc10.com/enlarge/3761.htm just dremel off the edges and use the middle top hole...

Right, I think I have found the answer to my servo and servo saver problems!

Hitec HS-85MG and XRay XR382500 servo saver. Absolutely slop free, super strong and tight!

I've just stuck it down with a bit of heavy duty double sided tape and it's rocking! :D

Last night is the first night I actually could drive the car and I am mightily impressed. It's very stable, very quick (even with the 15T pinion) and the slipper works very well (might tighten it a tiny bit).

morati - does your shocks bottom out before the chassis does or does the chassis bottom out before the shocks?

I have just realised that my shocks bottomed out before my chassis and have cut 3mm from the front shocks bottom plastic cups (part number IH14). This means the shock shaft screws in 3mm deeper allowing the chassis to bottom out before the shocks does.

Hopefully this might save the front suspensions arms a bit more!

Thomas - do you have a part number for the AE RC12L4 servo saver?

Also, do any of you guys have a good carpet racing setup?
What oil do you run in your shocks and what springs?
What kind of tracks are you setup for?
Tyres?

morati
10-04-2007, 05:11 AM
frogger, my chassis bottoms before my shocks. I run SATO shocks from RcMart with 30wt front and 20wt rear for a 1/10th scale dirt track. No carpet tracks here yet for off-road vehicles. One is coming soon but I don't think I'll run the MI there.....Haven't heard from you guys in awhile, are you breaking parts?

frogger
10-04-2007, 08:34 AM
I raced the car for the first time on Monday night and broke a front carbon shock tower and alloy front top suspension arm which I believe was all due to the suspension bottoming before the chassis. I run the optional alloy Kyosho Mini Inferno shocks with 70W in the front and 45W in the rear with black springs and anti roll bar.

I lost a few screws from the bottom and have now put lock tight on them so they should stay put.

I still haven't heard from KMRC regarding the front plastic kick up plates so I am a little concerned that you broken a couple of them.

We have the 2nd round of the UK BRCA Micro nationals this weekend. As far as I know its going to be the only Inferno there so it would be interesting to see how it goes against the Vandetta's and RC18's.

I am really struggling to find good setup information for this car.

Have you managed to sort out bump steer and if so how?

Thasts why im using the GPMs i have almost 5 mm extra when im bottomout..they OWN al dampers ive tested, Atomic,3Racing,Kyosho..the trick is to let them bleed slow, and use 3 racing diaphragmas

Thomas, I have a set of GPM shocks too and can't get on with them. GPM uses the same length shock bodies front and rear so they bottom out even worse! The original Kyosho shocks in my experience gives the best damping and with the little modification I made is about the best micro shock I have come across. :D

I guess our different experiences could be due to assembly line differences?

Thomas P

:D, that is strange mr Frogger..is the rear shock axl longer than the front on yours? mine are. I have inner/lower on tower makes the damper "longer", and still no problem to bttom out the chassi before the dampers..maybe we have diffrent shock towers?

Hey Thomas, I tried running them on the standard shock towers (on my son's Inferno). The rear shock shaft is longer than the front but it doesn't go into the shock body all the way. Never mind, I sold them today ;) :D

I keep losing the CVD pin. Lost another one today! I need to come up with a clever way of attching them permanently.

frogger, do you mean the CVD pin that joins the two halves of the CVD together. Did you put Blue Loctite on the set screw? I haven't lost one in over a year of driving.....
Or do you mean the pin on the end of the axle which holds the wheel in place? Use a "roll-pin" here......It won't fall out...

I have put blue loctite on them twice now and have lost it again! Also, tonight the pin the goes through the dogbone (that turns the gearbox outdrive) came out and grinded the side of the alloy gearbox to pieces!

Thats your problem, my friend!
Swap them out for a set of MIP's either in regular width (for the MI) or the wide ones for the ST and your pins will no longer fall out on you and they will last twice as long.

The wide track CVD's I am running makes the car's wheelbase wider without having to change everything on the car to ST parts (shocks towers, shocks, suspension whishbones, etc.).

It is a standard length CVD with a longer axle and included 1/10 wheel adapter (with extra length threaded axle that protrudes further out of the thicker 1/10 wheel so that your wheel nut fits on properly).

The only problem with them is that they are poorly assembled!

The MIP CVD's are standard length and gives no benefit over the Kyosho CVD's (which i already own) so it would be taking a step back going for narrower CVD's and as mentioned above I don't want to convert the whole buggy to a ST. ST parts are harder to come by.
