PS: im running this charger...http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXXG87&P=ML

Assuming it will work OK with power packs I'd use the Tx mode, even GP1100 packs would die early if you were shoving 3.5A at them all the time

3.5A? It's a lot of current! I usually charge my batteries at a maximum of 1C (assuming C battery's capacity... for example for GP 2300mA/h I use 2300mA) when I'm in a hurry (1C = about 1 hour to get them full charged) while when I want to charge batteries at their maximum I never go over 1A...

1c is low for a nimh. I am friends with a guy who sells /distributes matched gp 1100's and they are charged rated at 4 amps. I thought this was crazy but it does not get the cells hot at all. They used to be sold at one18th. I don't charge mine that high but the GP cell process is very good and can handle 2-3amps with their 1100's. But charging at 1 amp will not hurt, it will make your batt's last longer.

My touring car gp3300's 1.17 get charged @ 5 amps because they where matched at that-so thats their best performance rate. Sometimes I will go to 5.5 if I need an edge but then I gamble with the pack changing. Batteries are funny that way. They learn or adjust to your charge and discharge rates. That is one way Manufacturers get matched packs. If you always charge your batteries at 4 amps and discharge @ 15 (est car load), then your battery voltage will flatten out to that combination. So if you go race and decide to go 5.5 to make the heats, then your battery will have a strong punch for about 30 sec before dying into a torq-less wonder of heat and confusion.

i fully agree with Moose... i do the same thing with my matched SMC GP 3300 packs and for sure its the best way to go... you get more runtime, punch and also you working the packs for a longer time at peak performances before they start going down... thats when you need to buy a new pack :D

I usually charge AAAs at 1.2A unless it is for a race and then I may charge as high as 3A. I charge my LiPos around 1.9A and SubCs around 4.5A. It just depends on the battery and battery type. If you plan to stick around R/C for a while, just purchase a charger with a variable charge setting and adjustible peak setting. It may cost a little more now, but it will probably be worth it in the long run. That's one thing I like about my Triton, it will charge Ni-Cds, Ni-MH, Li-Ions, Li-Pos, and Lead Acid batteries which means it will charge my receiver batteries, my transmitter batteries, my starter box battery, and my RC car batteries, including my LiPos.

and your 1:1 car battery. I thought about picking up either a triton or the duratrax ICE. The ICE has some sweet stuff that is awsome for 1/10 racing.

And the car of course. ;) I never looked into the ICE though I'm pleased with the Triton so far. Many times, I just run both the Triton and my Novak at the same time.

Gotta love those dads ;)
same rules apply for a wife or girlfriend too.
always ask them first, they like to be in the "loop"

Although sometimes it's easier to ask forgiveness than get permission! :D (At least with wives/girlfriends)
