Hello! An italian friend asked me to suggest him a better ESC for his MiniInferno... what can I suggest? Novak Spy is a good choice? I read it's limited to 4-7 cells, so won't it work with a 8cell pack? Another good ESC with reverse?
He doesn't need a brushless ESC...
Thanks

the Spy wont work with the 400 sized motors----lrp quantum reverse esc are nice and small and can handle a decent amount of voltage and will be able to handle up to a 540 motor

you could probably go with the quantum micro too or the stock RC18T esc. It is not reated for 8 cells but several people have been running this setup just fine.

I suggest GM-Racing W6R which can take 6-8cells (9.6V) and has Forward/Brake/Reverse. If you could, try the SX6R, which is smaller in size.

The size is perfect. I took out the stock ESC tonight and install GM with a Futaba R133F receiver. Together they are the same size as the stock unit.

I will post photo tomorrow as I am really exhausted. Besides, the modification is not completed yet, still need to change the plug of my 8 x intellect 1200mAh batt. pack. :(

If you want to run up to 8-cells, with NO issues.......and not break the bank...get this ESC: MC230CR. It will handle motor from 540 to 180's...and up to 8-cells...with no issues!!!!

Futaba MC230CR ESC (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXUY13&P=ML)

That would work with our 8-cell saddle pack Just fine!!!!

thats what I am running. Definately a plus to have reverse lockout if you wish too. Also, you can catch the mc330cr lookalike esc on ebay for 26 if you are lucky. That would be a sweet esc too.

5 wires? Normal ESC only has 4. the 5th one is for brushless motor?

YES, thats the ESC put out by associated that can handle most any motor on the market. it covers the field of both standard and brushless motors in one simple ESC.

that sppedcontrol looks nice but 7.2-8.4V :( ,do you have one in your h8?

I have been told by a few experts that most good quality 8.4v ESCs (i.e. LRP) can actually take 9.6v without problem. But I don't like the idea to "overload" the factory figure, especially it is something very expensive. So I bought GM-Racing ESC which at default can accept 9.6v.

I have one and It seems to work fine so far. It is a 1/10th esc and you are running a smaller motor, I think thats why it can deal with the voltage ok.

Lrp is not the only one can handle the two type of motors, schulze manufacture the u-force 50, for me it's the better choice... maybe too big, but the brushles esc are amazzzzzingg!!!!

ok so it is no danger to use the futaba speedcontrol then?

Someone using 330 ESC, no problem reported yet. Besides, it is reliable and cheap. Won't hurt ur pocket too much if it burnt. :D

What about the XPS from the 18T? Would that work fine with like a http://www.hobby-lobby.com/speed400.htm? Or an X-Speed? with a URC 9.6v 8 cell pack? Thnks.

...the XPS from the 18T is REALLY good...My reciever is from the 18T too :D Considering they are 'basically' LRP units you cant go wrong...Nice and small too...BTW KYOSHO is pushing the smaller NOVAK units as 'dedicated' to the halfeight...But thats more a 'business' decision, as KYOSHO imports NOVAK into Japan, than a 'performance' decision...

...BTW i also used the LRP AI esc for a while...VERY cool...a little big but works like a dream...VERY plug and play...

so i wont fry my car with that set up? I have the Ai in my T4 and its a great controller!

...You gotta love the AI series...its quite big though and i ended up putting my receiver over the servo...made it a little tight with all the wires going into the top but its all good ;)

When I first started messing around with the H8 I scrapped the stock E-stuff right away and started using a Novak XRS and the stock motor on 8 cells with no problem .. I still have the XRS and have used it with a speed 400 motor from Rad Microsport. Also the XRS will do down to a 15 turn motor so there shouldn't be any problems with a motor limit ......

GM or Mtronics seem too be the only good small ones that are actually rated for 8-cells!!!

It doesn't matter if it is rated or not. We are using smaller motors so you can easily run 1 cell over the limit.

smaller motors and smaller batteries (less amperage)

You guys convinced me-I'm going to order a MC330 monday morning!!
this probably wont solve my overheating problem! Just tonight my Rocket 400 motor shut down on me! I was running the united X42 8-cells with a GM V4R ESC!! I cant wait for trinity, Team Orion or Peak Racing to come out with tuned 400 can motors that can handle the punishment I'm gonna put this thing through! :D

well if the 330CR can handle it... I can't see why the GM can't... I think the motor is getting hot and shutting down.... that happnes too... it's not always the ESC

Yeah, letting your motor cool is pretty critical, especially when your hit 160 each run. I honestly wouldn't wait for Team Orion or Peak to produce a motor...their previous 300's were only rebadged stock 300's...that are 11 bucks at the LHS. Fantom and a few third party sites were the only ones to actually sell a faster, modified motor that was actually tuned.
