I just got done installing the Atomic Type II center diff and it doesn't turn smoothly with the 3R blue delrin spur. all the gears are new and in good shape. what could be the problem? this happens as soon as i tighten the diff mount screws.

If I recall correctly the two little o-rings on the diff being sandwiched between the diff and diff case is the issue.

I removed these two o-rings and replaced with very thin shim's I found in an OFNA shim kit at my local HS.

The thin metal shims do not bind up like the rubber o-rings. I found that the rubber o-rings were acting like "glue".

thanks. i removed the o-rings and put a few shims and its a little better but theres still a little binding. it looks like the gear mesh is too tight. same thing happened with the stock slipper gears. how do i solve this?

What diff case are you using? Stock or the one that Atomic has? If you are using the Atomic case make sure you adjust the two pieces on top perfectly square to the gears.

I found out the hard way and stripped out gears when I first installed.

Make sure your motor pinion gear mesh is correct also.

i'm using the stock case. the diff case is not mounted so there isn't any pinion

Try changing out the blue blue spur gear. If you purchased a set of three there are three different sizes. You may be using the wrong one. With the stock diff case I do not think there is a way to adjust the spur away from the ball diff gear.

If the Atomic ball diff gear is slightly larger than the stock gear the spur gears will not work with the stock case. I think the blue gears are 30, 31 and 32 teeth. Try and go down one size.

Does the diff spins freely without the spur gears?

the diff spins freely without the spur gears. i also tried the atomic diff with the stock spurs and it still binds. mesh becomes way too tight once everything is installed. the 3R gears only change the size of the spur gear that meshes with the pinion and not the other one.

I am at a loss.

Sorry I could not help,
