Here you go:

The Battery Protection unit is used to protect the battery from "over-discharging" creating longer runtimes. The ESC will still handle the voltage

i think ill pick up a BPU anyways when i get my 8-cell and x-speed...i dont think any one can resist longer runtimes......

I would rather run the 6 cell if you are thinking about the BPU. It cuts the voltage to 7 volts.... that will be so slow and you still have the added wieght of 2 cells and and unit itself.

I think you have got it wrong.
This device is to protect the battery from dropping below 7 volts, not to limit the voltage. ;)

NiMh batteries don't like to be discharged below 0.9 volts.
If you discharge the battery to low, you reduce the lifetime of the battery. (number of discharge/charge cycles before the battery become bad)

The description states that it keeps the battery at about 7 volts. I don't personally know if they mean discharge cutoff or if that is the running voltage. I thought it might be discharge cutoff too but if you have run a mamba with a regular gp pack, a cutoff is a terrible thing to do. The cutoff activates when you hit the set voltage under a load...not when your battery has reached that voltage. So when you jab the throttle from a dead stop, their is a good chance that you would hit the volage cutoff because the motor is pulling so many amps. Hopefully thats not the case with the kyosho unit.

...i think its all a conspiracy to cover up the fact that president Kennedy was actuality Elvis's cousin...oh sorry wrong forum...I think its a conspiracy to cover up the fact that KYOSHO knows we are all running hot  So there

I think they are getting ahead of themselves because the cutoff is a great idea if you are running a lipo. Most of the time, you have to set your runtimes to 10 minutes or so because their is no cutoff on regular esc's. a 2cell would probably work pretty well with their BPU...and Your It!!!

i wonder what would work better with a mamba... the usual gp cell setup pr a LiPo one.. and what cells for the LiPo if a its a 8000 mamba motor?
About the cutoff... i agree that the GP's dont like to go under the 0.9v... i even have a Novak Smart Tray discharger just cause of that for my 1/10 elect road car! lol

probably gp cells because lipo tends to cog because of low amp output. I would be carefull trying to run an 8000 mamba in that car though...

Ok, got ur drift... u maybe right.. maybe i'll get a LiPo sample to test and see whats best... actually GP would be less expensive i guess...

So does it handle 9.6V stock?

yes it does.

Before I fry my brand new H8 I am so stupid and thick-headed that I have to ask, the car will run fine with a 9.6v 8 cell GP pack with the stock electronics on it???

PS. Sorry for the idiot question. :D :D

...its not idiotic...A whole bunch of us in here hooked up our stock gear with all sorts of power-packs and for the most part nothing bad happened...6 cells and 8 cells GP1100 are fine STOCK...

So i would be fine if i ran a Gp 1100 pack with a rocket 400 motor with the stock ESC?

yup. did it

How was the heat issue with that combo 8cell & Rocket 400???

mOOsE
05-25-2005, 10:21 PM
heat is not really a big problem. I measured it today and it was 160 F after about 15-20 minutes running off-road full throttle. The stock esc heatsink was probably around 110-120 after a similar run. I had no issues at all though. However, I would remove the fake head if you are running the stock electronics because it doesn't allow air-flow over the esc/rx unit.

Weird, we got them on the 25th; FYI the pack has a sticker on it that says "You will need No.71953 (battery protection circuit) when using this product. (except charging)" The Battery Set (71951) includes the Battery Protection Unit. The connectors on the unit are a stock Micro type female, and a male of the proprietary Kyosho connector, so the unit can plug into the 8-cell pack's Micro connector, and then the stock ESC on the other end. The pack also includes a spare female Micro connector.
