Anyone know how to program one of these? It is doing my head in. I take the brake off as per instructions, then trigger springs to neutral and the motor is at full power. Brake, or reduced throttle, is right back to the pistol grip. That seems back to front to me!!!!!

What exactly are you trying to do man......are you trying to disable reverse.

Switch the throttle reversing switch on your radio and see if that solves it.

I'm trying to get the thing to go forwards and backwards as happens with the stock set-up. So when I pull the trigger, the car moves fowards. When the trigger springs back to centre/ neutral, the car should stop. And when I push the trigger past the neutral I would expect the motor to spin in reverse. Like I say, I'm not sure it has reverse.

It sounds like you might have a plane/heli ESC, which doesn't have reverse. I think you need to do a little research into exactly what you got, and make sure it has a car mode.

If it does, then it's probably just set in a plane/heli mode. And as you've asked for already, you just need programming instructions.

It is a heli/plane esc but is suitable for cars. Like I say I don't think it has reverse - which I can live with, but I want neutral trigger pos to be "off" and trigger pulled to handle to be throttle.

OvaYaHead - this is the black Tower Pro 30a esc. I have instructions but they are not very clear:

First, connect the motor and receiver to the speed controller
Remove battery power from the speed controller.
Turn on the transmitter.
Move throttle stick to full power position,(UP Position)
Reconnect battery power to the speed controller
After 3sec you can hear (all sound is 3times)
∮— CELL Type AND Number
∮— — BRAKE
∮— — — TIMING MODE
∮— — — — PWM
When you need programming menu, move the throttle stick to middle position.
Submenus:
1, CELL Type AND Number
•— NiMh/Nicd AUTO(0.8V/CELL*)
•— — 3LIPO (2.75V/CELL)
•— — — 4LIPO(2.75V/CELL)
•— — — — 5LIPO(2.75V/CELL)
2, BRAKE
••— NO
•••— — SOFT
•••— — — MID
•••— — — HARD
3, TIMING MODE
•••— 2 º
••••— — 7 º
•••••— — — 15º
•••••— — — — 30º
4, PWM
••••— 8KHZ
•••••— — 16KHZ
•••••••— — — 32KHZ
IF the option is you need ,then move the throttle stick to UP position.
The long BEEP is save the option. and the system will go to the programming menu.
You can setup other options.
When all the required options are setup OK, push the throttle stick to down position, after 1sec the system will save all options, then you can start the motor now!!
*IF used 2 cells LIPO you can select the option .
Remarks:
∮ Signifys the rhythm the ESC emits
• Signifys short buzz
— Signifys long beep

Man that sounds like a PITA... makes me like the Quark even more.

Anyway, this is how I interperet that:
1) Hold the trigger to the handle while you plug in the ESC.
2) You will hear a sound that indicates which menu option its on, according to:
∮— CELL Type AND Number
∮— — BRAKE
∮— — — TIMING MODE
∮— — — — PWM
3) When it is making the sound of the above option, move the trigger to neutral position (this could be all the way forward on the throttle trigger, depending on how it's reading your controller)
4) Then it should start making a different sound, according to the charts above
5) When it makes the sound of the option you want, squeeze the trigger to the handle again
6) You will get a solid long beep, then it returns to the base menu
7) Repeat steps 2-6 until all options are set

Have you tried this yet?

Does this esc have throttle position programming option? Going by your posts it sounds like the esc isn't recognizing the right throttle position.

Or maybe you need to switch around the wires going to the motor.

Thanks, habitforming, I shall try that.

OvaYaHead - I don't think it has a throttle setting.

ChrisOFNA - thanks for the reminder - I hadn't even realised that those little sliders on top of the unit reversed things!

I just had a problem similar to yours with my quark, i forgot about throttle reverse...
