Hello fellow Mini Inferno'ers,(does that work? :p)

Well I got my Wraith 7k motor today and ran it. But before I get to the review I would like to give a big thanks to Troy over at www.b-p-p.com. I've talked to him on the phone and he is a super cool and knowledgable guy. I was going over soldering the gold plugs on the esc with him, and I didn't even ask and he went ahead and soldered them for me for free. He also installed the deans plug I ordered on the ESC too. Now that's what I call customer service, and he still got it to me within 3 days of ordering it.

I installed the motor and the ESC and went ahead and read the manuals. The motor dropped right in and the ESC was placed conveniently on my top brace. I went ahead and programmed the ESC to my personal settings. VERY EASY! Look for a thread in the electronics forum for a Quark 33A Pro-Car review. I had my Thunder Power 3-cell Lipo charged up and ready to go.

I put it on the ground and gently put about 20% of the throttle and off it went. While getting used to the amount of power it has on my driveway, I was astonished how fast I was going when only doing about 40% throttle. I LOVED it. The Quark 33A is truly the best ESC out there. Acceleration felt buttery smooth and very precise. No cogging in tall grass either. It performed beautifully.

As I head out on the street I start doing 75% throttle. Holy #!$%! This thing was a good 2 times faster than my CRT with a Modded Novarossi P5. As I started doing full throttle passes I just couldn't believe how fast this was. It would just keep going and going. If I had more room I could have gone much faster. Although it was a handful, the precise throttle input made it very controllable to drive. I put the setting under normal proportional braking. Braking power also felt just right and very precise. It didn't come on harshly at all.

After getting bored of speed passes, I went to the local park. The sidewalks is configured in a way where I can make a track. Throughout the turns this brushless system performs beautifully. I can actually use the insane amount of power efficiently thanks to the super smooth throttle. I loved it, I can blast the throttle out of the turn, brake, turn, and then fly by again, all under complete control. This was also one of the first times driving my Mini Inferno and I was VERY impressed with it's handling using completely bald stock tires.

Throughout the test runs, the ESC ran at a consistent 130-135 degrees. The motor was running around 140-155 degrees. I would recommend a heat sink with this motor. I was running a 12t pinion but I am going to drop down to an 11t. I also had no drivetrain problems. I am running a stock, locked center diff, ST diffs front/rear, CVD's in front, metal dogbones in the rear and center, and the Atomic outdrives showed very little signs of wear after about 25 minutes of run time.

I will be racing at my local track tomorow in the 10th scale Mod class. I have a very good feeling that I will be able to beat at least half the crowd. I was astonished at how good this buggy handles. I will have my brother take videos of my buggy on the track. I'll have an edited movie in a couple days that shows the pure power of this motor/esc.

In conclusion, if you are looking for a brushless system, you will not be dissapointed with the Wraith/Quark combo. In my opinion it is one of the best combo's out there right now. What more can you ask for, amazing amount of torque, an endless amount of rpm's, and all extremely smooth and controllable.

Of course, a review needs some pics! ;)

Have a speed gun? What kind of batteries are you using? What pinion?

are you using Lipo or NiMH? how many cells?

thanks for the review!

A 3-cell Lipo.

3 Cell lipo on a 11 or 12 tooth pinion with what top speed? Do you have access to a radar gun?

No radar gun but it SHOULD hit 50mph with a hyperion pack and a 12t pinion. In a heavy mini LST with a TP 3c lipo it's been radared at 45mph. In a lighter KMI with a hyperion pack(higher discharge/burst right) I'm sure it can hit 50mph.

Man... I think that is faster than my Aon w/ the 16 tooth pinion on a 3 cell.

How about diffs? Are you running ST diffs? (drops the gear ratio)

Any other gear adjustments?

Maybe I need to look at the wraith in my H8 too! How are your runtimes?

how are the ST diffs holding up?

also does the ST have a sealed center diff?

Q8y, the ST diffs are holding up great for me. Recently took them apart and no wear at all. I also stopped using diff silicone oil and started using Mugen's Super Grease. If you put enough of that stuff you have almost a locked diff. It doesn't seep out of the gaskets either.

I have diff. ST front and rear, center 3 racing diff ball. This is a fotograph of my configuration.

Runs times about 20-25 minuts more or less.

Scale those images down a little man! giant on my screen! hehe.

I can't believe you get that good of a runtime at that speed. that is most excellent. I guess both the MLST and the H8 need a wraith :)

That Half 8 is yelling, "Please do a motor flip mod on me!" Heh. I get around 35 minutes of run time with my wraith/quark running a TP 1900mah 3c lipo.

Hi people!
I own a wraith7k and a quark33.
I´m using a 12t and a 8 cell 1400 intellect pack. It´s incredibly fast.
I tryed running it with 6cell gp2700AA for reduce some speed on a small track but it runs much slower than a stock motor.
Is it normal ?
Thank you

just amazing ,,, im using a vendetta and ran the wraith it ,, but that was short lived,,, I dont see how you guys can do it without smoking that motor,,, the MI is bigger, heavier, and has a lower final drive,,,, I had my wraith with final drive at around 10:1 and had a hard time keeping it cool,,,

I use a gh4700 with final drive at 5.99:1 and I have better results with it,; even better than the aon4900

gearing too low can cause high motor/esc temps too.

jaejw1
01-04-2007, 05:22 PM
true but with a motor with high kv you need to gear low.. to take advantage of the power/torque and speed.. or else you will smoke it..

my 8000kv mamba motor was cooked cause i couldnt gear it any lower than 10:1,,, which is lower than what a rc18t will give it.. but maybe it is because you guys are using a slipper that you can run this motor..

im running my wrath 7k with a 14t pinion on a 3 cell lipo and seeing temps arround 120-130.

jaejw1
01-05-2007, 03:42 PM
shucks I might have to get a MI if thats the case,,,,,, my wraith just couldnt handle what I was putting her through,,, 5-8 minutes of practice on a 10th scale offroad track meant high temps,,, so much so that the solder was melting from the connectors

dam man. i was running fully charged 3 cell packs from frech peak till the cutoff was kicking in and getting thoes temps on 8th scale tracks with 200 foot strights.

I would love to add to this review.
But still waiting for mine to turn up. So then I can justifie ordering diffs etc.
Ordered on the 29NOV.
Which is weird cos most stuff gets to me in Victoria, Australia from overseas. Faster than it gets to me from Sydney (another state).

Well it just so happens that that is where my stuff is coming from. Bad way to run a business. Which is a real shame. Becuase before I brought of them. I read nothing but good reviews. So abit  there. Also before I handed over the hard earned $$$, I asked some questions about stuff and Troy was very helpfull. But this is now leaving a very sour oppinion.

thats why i chose BPP. it was supposedly a good shop. i could have easily chosen a Quark 33A with a AON 6000Kv from RCMart if it wasn't for the good reviews. the AON is only $134. i'll give him two weeks. if i dont see anything on my doorstep i'm gonna go ahead with the AON and get my money back from BPP.

Sorry Troy but i think waiting for half a year is a bit too much don't you think?

Well I finely got my stuff from BPP. Only took 2months. Which is unacceptable. And I am sure Troy knows that. I hope you get yours sorted soon.
As for mine it came well packaged and just need to find a helpfull mate to do some soldering for me.

So what I have so far is a Quark 33amp procar, wraith 7k, 3cell lipo and I brought a rc18t 12t pinion the other day with some nitro stuff.
Just need some opinions on engine mounts. I am thinking of getting a 3R engine mount with fan.

What ever I order I will get some other stuff as well. Like MIP diffs f/c/r (depending on cost, an atomic may go in the c). Plus new hubs and some other little things.

wow sorry to hear about your bad expireance with bpp.

i ordered a Aon and quark 33a of them on the 20th of jan and was told they would ship in a week.
i emailed them on friday 2nd feb asking if it had shipped and got a email back from troy saying he was having probs getting the Aon in and would i except a wraith for free and he would ship me a Aon as soon as they come in.

now i call that great customer service a free motor for having to wait a few weeks :D

he was unsure when the Aon would come in, but to give me a wraith to play with while i wait is 1st class....

Nice 1 Troy and bpp
