I'd like to make an upper deck for my incoming KMI, but so far I've been unsatisfied with the products I'm seeing on ebay. Google searches are turning up 99% stuff that doesn't apply to what I want.

Has anyone on here found a reliable source for carbon fiber sheets? I'd only need 1 under 1 sq ft in size.

Its not Silver Surface Graphite but it'll at least match your new chassis.

I live by a couple Tap Plastic shops so I'm going to see what material I can find in their scrap bin.

I want to try a thick piece of polycarbonate for a chassis or upper deck.

What is the best way to cut Carbon Fibre sheeting?

Atm I use 3mm alloy for any custom work, what are the advantages of using CF?

I never cut large pieces of CF, but to shape small pieces I just used a dremel. Make sure you use some eye protection and dust mask.

Don't use it for a chassis. I used it in the past to build radioboxes for 1/8 hydroplanes but they crack after sometime due to fuel. Also when hit a wall the chassis will break at point where is drilled because they're weak points in the chassis. Better stick to CFK, Carbon, FRP or expoxy sheets. I buy in Germany @ Carbon team (http://www.carbon-team.de) He is also making parts for the real DTM-cars so the quality is very high.

I've bought CF sheet from machv and they are a very reliable company to deal with.

I cut CF with my dremel using a reinforced cutoff wheel (P/N 426) running on high speed, then finish the edges with .5" and .25" sanding drums running medium to slow depending on the grit.

At the very least wear a dust mask and safety glasses. The dust will irritate your lungs and nose really bad, and the cutoff wheels will break from time to time.

Here's a couple pics of a tank mount I made to put an MBX5 tank on my Pro Hobby production MT chassis.

I picked up 3 sheets the other day for $1.50. The guy was telling me that I can take a hammer to it and it won't break. I'll just give it a try and see how it works. :D I'm picking up an eclipse chassis tomorrow

Mr. are you sure it was polycarbonate that you used and not regular plexi glass? Acrylic plexi is very brittle, but this polycarb stuff works pretty well. I know it's pretty much just a more condensed form of the material used for bodies.

I hammered it and overtorqued screws to see if it would break or shatter. No luck on breaking this stuff yet. I sold my remote so I haven't tested it outside.

It is off the topic, but what are the wheels and tires are you using on your MIST? They are look cool.

If not the stock wheels, what adaptor are you using? Thanks.

I bought them from Morati.

They are HPI wheels with Evil Twin tires bolted on with CAW hubs.
:D looks great and handles nicely in dirt, but horrible on the street. If I even tap the steering the car will barrel roll.

Bithed, got the carbon fiber sheets from MachV a while ago. Very good quality. I'd recommend it.
