I have an 8cell gp1100 pack that I put together and decided to run. I am not running the protection unit and I was wondering if anyone else is also running an 8 cell.
my motor, batteries, or esc are NOT getting hot or even warm. It seems to be fine so far. The only thing that is getting warm is the crappy connector that comes stock on the unit.
I am very interested in hearing other users results with an 8cell on the stock stuff.
Thanks

...Hey moose...yup i used and 8pack with stock before i switched and it was fine...Heavy though eh...I reckon that the BPU became neccesscary AFTER they load the car with alloy and made it heavier but so far i have had ZERO problems...nothing...The BIGGEST thing for me so far is the HOT motor and cracking rims...but i think you are good to go mate...crank that 8pack

You might want to check your pack with a multimeter for its exact voltage. I'm using 7 NiMH AA batteries now although I could have used 8 with the modification I did to the battery holder. I found out that with 7 batteries, the voltage comes up to 9.45v (and runs just fine). With 8 batteries I would be well over 10v, which I'm guessing could put the ESC at risk.

ya sure is one of the first upgrades!!!!

Mine is actually above 12v charged. You must remember that their is no "load" on the batteries. When you lug it into the car and give it throttle, the voltage probably drops to around 9.6-9.9 volts. This is much different for a lipo though as they have huge average discharge voltage. A 3cell lipo would drop to around 11.7 volts under the same load as the 8 cell.

I just did a voltage test on the car. I connected my volt meter to the car a read a steady 10.7 volts-pack was not fully charged. With the wheels off the ground, I gave full throttle and the voltage registered around 10.2-10.3. This is with the load of the drivetrain and nothing else. So once you place the car on the ground, I can expect a voltage of around 9.0-9.9 fully charged.
I hope this helps

mOOsE,

That's good information. :)
Thanks for sharing it with us. ;)

Thanks for the info mOOse, it makes me wonder if 8 cells is safe afterall. I think I'll wait until many others have tried it without blowing up their electronics before I throw in another cell. :D

It seems fine, I raced it today with the 8 cell and the esc only got a little warm. Remember, its all about the amperage your esc can handle. Basically, the hotter it gets, the closer you are to its limit with batteries and motor.

Hi everybody, I'm from Spain and new to this forum. I want to know what is a BPU and wether I can use a S3 Lipo pack with the stock ESC or not, thanks a lot.

So jealous that you guys have no problem with 8 cells.

My H8 ran fine with the 8 cells pack for a few times and then it started behaving abnormally. Read the Batteries Recharge thread pg 2 for details.

I am going to buy LPR ESC soon. :D

Which model of LRP ESC? Quantum reverse (regular/super/Pro)? Or the big size AI one?
