Is the HS81 or 85 better? I have heard good and bad things about both and I have no clue of which one to pick.

85mg. little more torque and centers a little better than the 81 IMO. Most are running 85's here

I'm running an 81 but my preference would be for the 85BB due to the ball bearing support of the output shaft. The 81 shaft just runs on the plastic case and so is a bit sloppy.

85mg would be the better choice over the 85bb. Both have bearings, one just has metal gears.

85mg over the 81mg. Going by word of mouth from a lhs guy, the speed of the 81 and 85 isn't noticeable, but the strength of the 85mg makes a difference. With that said I bought the 225mg and 85mg to try out.

225mg is supposed to be stronger and faster then both 81 and 85. Honestly, I can't tell the difference between the 85 and 225.

81 doesn't seem to center as well.

I put the 81 mg in my half 8 when I first built it because it's what my LHS had in stock. I figured I'd run it for a while and replace it with the 85 or comprable Airtronics unit later on. It's been right at 3 months since then and the 81 is holding up just fine after having been raced/run almost every weekend since it was installed. It has plenty of speed and torque for the little MI buggy, but last saturday it started having trouble centering when it's first powered up. A quick flip of the wheels stops the buzzing, but it's time to start looking for a replacement.

I'm glad I found this site. I might get the 85 now that you guys are running them with no problems.

225mg seems to be the strongest among the three.
I know 81 and 85 can be installed on H8 without any mods.
Can 225mg be installed on H8 without any mods?

I just looked at my MRS4 and guess what I found? Hitec hs-225mg. Looks like I found a servo for my H8. Just needs a servo saver. I'll try to install it tonight and let you know what I come up with.

If you are running the stock h8 you already have a servo saver.....putting a second one on will only make your steering wishy washy.....

Ok I'll just hook it up to the arm then. I hope it's the same size. I don't know if I got any spares when I got the truck. I traded for it used. Does anyone have a spare or can u direct me to the right size?

Hey minijosh did the Hitec hs-225mg fit in the H8 without any mods?

Well I grabbed the H servo mount for the Hitec and it looks like I'll be keeping only one mounting screw and cutting the other. I'm thinking I should keep the front hole and cut the back one. What do you think?

Ok I couldn't wait. I cut the H servo mount and I shaved off a few parts and my servo fits like a glove. It barely fits in the chassis so that's a good sign. It touches the wall so it helps to keep the servo in place. So far I only have the forward screw holding it in place. Servo tape might come in or I'll just drill a hole in the servo holder and just screw it in. It's missing a little chunk between the servo and the holder so a screw will turn the servo a little bit if it's screwed in all the way to secure it. So it looks like servo tape and 2 screws and I'm in business. Too bad I didn't bring my camera. I'll do it at home.

Here's a quick shot of how I installed the servo. I'll take it out so you can see how little I had to trim to make it fit. I'll do that when I wake up. I do all my modding my rc's at work hehe. Don't tell Uncle Sam.
