Hey Guys,
Well, I'm almost done with this ST thing. I just can't get it to work the way want. Spent hundreds of $ trying but its just not happening for me. I'm going to give it one last try and wait for the MIP CVD's and Ball-diffs (already have the 3R center ball diff) before I sell it and move on to something that suits me better. My question to you is this.....Do I move on to something like a J Concepts BJ4 electric (or Kyosho Lazer) 1/10th or just go all out and buy a Kyosho SP2 or Mugen MBX5 buggy? I've never owned a Nitro powered vehicle before and the thought of tuning it scares me a little. Your advice is appreciated. Thanks!

John,

what is it not doing that you want?

I feel bad the ST isnt working out for you. I miss my nitro days. They are not hard to tune. You need a good glow starter, glow plugs, fuel, fuel filter air filter and temp. gauge.....Today with the infared temp gauges...its a snap.....Depending on the vehicle you made need a starterbox as well. Personally I like a pull start. A well tuned and maintained engine starts right up.....
If you are gonna go big....get the jammin truggy...... :D

Hey, my Buddies replied first! Guys, I'm not liking the inefficient drivetrain in the MIST as well as the sluggish handling...It just slides all over the place, doesn't matter what surface I'm driving it on. Feels kinda like trying to drive a station wagon or SUV on a roadrace coarse. I'm running it with the AON motor and a 3-cell lipo with the Tekin Mini Rage and its so slow, IMO due to the weight. My RC18T and Vendetta I am sure would run circles around it. The RC18T actually is so fast with the Hyperion on 3-cells that I had to De-Tune it a little just to make it driveable. Sure, it can't handle the big hits like the MIST but that comes with the territory of driving something with a half inch of suspension travel. Its too bad though, the MIST Platform with the Eclipse CF chassis I though would have been a winner. A couple of more weeks and those MIP parts should be out and we'll see. I broke both my front dog-bones on this thing and I'm making due with the plastic driveshaft ones that I cut and lenghtened by inserting the ends into some CF tubing. They keep breaking on me though.
George, I hear that Jammin Truggy is pretty good. The owner of my local hobby shop says he can get parts for it in a matter of days if I end up buying it....same as the Kyosho and the Mugen. XRays alot tougher.

How do you have the ride height set? Do you have the bones level? You know as well as I you have about upteen different positions for the shocks.
Another sad reality is not too many tire choices.......A few tweaks here and there and you should get a better handling ST. John what is funny...the sick speed of the rc18t brushless(50+mph) has got you into the speed mode.....with me it did the opposite....I enjoy a slower(30mph) and more stable ST. It is amazing to see how far a 50mph 1/18 scale can slide on its lid........hehehe

Did it today and it slid on its rear spoiler so far that it wore down by 4mm, LOL!

John,

If you want to try a center ball diff. All Speed Hobbies (online) has the blue 3Racing one on sale for $15 !!!!

Maybe worth a try. I'm thinking about one myslef.

Hey - I've been through several nitro monster trucks and buggies and it is cool. Had a hard time explaining to my wife why fuel is $25 a gallon and was going through it like water with the Savage I had.

It did help the truck quite a bit.....but not enough to convince me to keep it. We'll see when the MIP stuff comes out....I actually think the CVD's will help it more than the ball-diffs. Hate dog-bones. You should see what Nitro fuel goes for in Canada!

I can only imagine what it costs - since gas is also expensive up there.

The rc18t is perhaps the most solid off-road mini out there. It's light, simple, and w a mamba it can accelerate like a jack-rabbit.

I used to run my 18t's non-stop until I got the MIST. Now I have a MIST and MI and am selling my 18t's. It took a while, but now my MI is lapping much faster than my 18t (and near identical to the MIST). The prime difference is the center diff. The 18t, without a center diff, is prone to plow on corner entrance and hook on corner exit (too much power to the wheels being un-weighted).

If you have a driveline issue - you just have to find out what it is. The MI has to be the most complex mini out there (over-engineered IMO). I would also suggest lowering the ride height (this helped a ton for me).

Good luck - the MI can flat out fly - it just might take some time to dial in. If it's any consolation - I work on my MI twice as much as my 18T - it just requires it. But in the end, you can get much more out of this car.

Also the noise from the drivetrain drives me nuts. Due to the weight, its always gonna be slow compared to its competition. Its just not the vehicle for me I'm afraid. I'll let you guys know first when I'm about to sell it in case one of you wants it. At least it has very few miles on it....
