Hello,

Can anyone give me tips on how to use lipos safely? Do I need to discharge and recharge after each run or do i just re-peak after each 5 min run?

You need a voltage cutoff (you cant go below 3volts per cell)
And never discharge them it is not needed
and it you happen to dent a cell you shouldnt use it anymore

voltage cutoff? Where can i get that?

Hi ChrisOFNA,

This is what I know :

Lipos must not be discharged below a certain voltage. From memory it's 2.75V/cell but I am not 100% certain. It will become unstable if over discharged. So, I do not recommend any discharging at all.

Use a suitable charger (I use Duratrax ICE) for charging to ensure no over charging occurs (must be be higher than 4.15V/cell I think). The charging method used is CC-CV (constant current- constant voltage). According to the charger manual literature, the charher forces current to the battery at the charging current (normally not more than 1C) & then switches to constant voltage (reducing current accordingly) until a certain desired voltage is reached.

Lipos should not get overly warm (more than 66 deg C i read somewhere) during use.

As to whether one can charge up immediately after use I'm not sure (though my gut says yes).

Hope is half baked info is useful.

Regards,
Joe Ling

Will this work? I really dont have the money for a ICE charger.

Or you could go for this one Multiplex LN-5014 charger does lipos and nimhs.
Tower have them.

IThat is getting a little out of price range, but i know where to shoot for now.

when dealing with lipos it is best to save up and get a better charger, cause it will be harder to mess something up.

btw if you run a mamba speed control you will not need a voltage cut off cause there is one built in it.

You will have to set the voltage for the cut-off to work properly!!!!You can do this via the PHX link or with your tx.....
As far as discharge voltage..check with the manufacturer of the cells/pack. They will also tell you how to store them.......
