Get CC link, download the latest software for the ESC and you should do better on both accounts.

I run a ST w a mamba 5400 (3cell lipo 11.1V) - and I had it geared at a 10t - and it still got hot. These brushless motors love to be geared low. I would try putting a 10t on there. I ended up putting the Atomic spur (38t - it requires some mods to the center diff housing) to gear the truck lower.

When a brushless motor (and ESC) gets hot, its internal resistance will go up. And once it starts to cog (stutter) it will get even hotter. My rule: once the car stutters, pull it over.

Hawk is correct - the new software helps a ton (especially to remove some cogging issues).

I also have the ST with Mamba 5400 and a 11.1v 1800 mAh 20C LiPo. I was using a 11 tooth pinion and it got sizzling hot and now the motor doesn't turn smoothly and gets hot even when I run it with no load.

Now I'm looking for a new motor, maybe the AON 4900 or Align 430L 4050KV (not sure about the open can yet).

mamba motors are too small to be put in a 400 motor powerplant. If used, you must run extremely low gearing which defeats the purpose of brushless anyway. You are much better off running either a hyperion or AON motor if going brushless.

hey moose srry to disagree with you but my mamba 5400 runs great. i have a 11 tooth pinion on it and will go up to a 13 soon. im running 8 cells or about 11.02 volts fresh off the charger. but i do have a fan on the motor..... i love my mamba! it has gobs of speed!!!!(now that i fixed my binding problem)

have your raced an AON or even 4.8 graupner half8. A speed 400 4.8 has more torque than a mamba and slightly more rpm than a 5400 mamba....

lol ive raced 1/8 buggys and almoast won. the almoast is beause when i pit to change batts it takes like 3 laps and i can only make a 4 lap lead. there are 2 batt changes.... i have enough torque to wheelie with my center diff gooed up like it is
