Hello. I am the owner of two aon 4900's and they are both different  . One has a shaft allows to pinion to go flush against the motor, and the other gets thicker about 2mm from the motor. This makes the pinion came out farther. Whats going on? Thanks.

Sounds like one of them has the shaft installed improperly. Look at the back of the motors. Is there the same amount of the shaft coming out the rear bearing? Can you pull (not very hard) and get one of the shafts to come out? It's possible you got a bad one, or it was damaged in shipping.

I'm just guessing... it could be a change in design... *shrug*

Also my 4900 gets thicker about 2mm from the motor, so I have put a spacer betwen the motor and the support of the motor in order to withdraw the pinion.
You can see the photos of my 4900 to this link:

ok ok ill stay on topic. i have had 3 mambas and all 3 had different shafts. one had a cone type thing near the can, one was the same the whole length and one went from 2mm to 3mm near the can. i think it is common. just my 2 cents.

I have a 2415-4900 that is as pictured above. It has a small jump in shaft diameter as it nears the front bearing. I have had no trouble with fitting pinions because the gears I am using don't have such a large non-toothed area (I bet some gear head has a name for that, I don't know to call it.) I think you could have better luck if you try another manufacturer's pinion gear.

My 4900 works fine, however it would be better if it had not had that small jump in shaft diameter. With taht shaft if you want to use pinions like those of the HPI, you must put that spacer.

I checked my Aon and it has the shoulder. What I did notice and will work as a fix. Some of my pinions have deeper countersinks on the bore (angle at the edge of the hole) If you have a countersink you can make the angle larger(deeper) and the pinion will fit closer to the shoulder on the shaft.

Sure thing. They are orion micro pro metal pinions. I didn't buy them at Tower, I got mine at the LHS. This will give you a picture so see, and numbers and pricing of the product line.
9t-16t, decent range.
