:) Our MP777 SP2 kit arrives today. I will be a busy bugger as we are racing in a points race tomorrow. Have to be up at 5AM to get the car loaded and off to the track to get there by 8AM for a good table. I guess I will just get everything ready that I can before it gets here, diffs need to be filled, I have battery box and servo setups that I can build before hand. It is great to have spare parts laying around to help in situations like this.

I am so excited that I had to tell somebody. Any way, wish us luck for the racing tomorrow.

I know what you are saying. We aren't looking to take first, just make it to the A main. We run in a pretty tough crowd, several sponsored drivers, many that just do the west coast tour because they love it.
This is the building time and fun racing over the winter until the Silver State in March.

but its always more fun to win

Yeah, we wouldn't go if deep in our hearts we didn't hope to pull a surprise win some day soon. Maybe if the factory guys would all get the same bad bunch of engines and we just happen to do everything right, we could pull it off.
So we show up everyweek and watch, and try and tune our hearts out hoping that all those Hollywood stories have a sliver of truth and the little guys can win too.
If you don't have dreams, then things get real boring and the same.

go arround and when they arent looking put chewing gum on the back side of each of their rims. and watch their cars wobble arround lol

One nice thing about the factory guys is they will sell their used once stuff at the local races. They come back from nationals and sell 20-30 tire/wheels that have run in one qualifier.

They are pretty nice guys and we all have a lot of fun. One guy comes around once in a while, he showed up for the last big race weekend of the season. He bought a RTR Hyper and made it into the A main with the thing. Broke the engine in during the qualifiers. He was runing in first close to the end and I think he broke. finished about mid pack.
Kinda humbles you to watch that. You go drop a couple of grand on a new killer car with all the latest tweaks, massage it, tune it and feed it to make it the killer setup and a RTR out of the box kicks you A.

Lol, I know what you mean Hawk. Those guys could drive a Tonka truck to the A, it's what countless hours and years of track time get you (along with skill to begin with, lol). Maybe I'll be able to meet you at the Silver State race, I think a few of us southerners might try and make it this year. I'm looking to travel quite a bit and get some big races under my belt. I love my Xray, but man the Kyosho's are solid performers. The Xray is so setup sensitive, as compared to the Kyosho where one setup will primarily work on just about anything. I'e gotta change all sorts of little things on my XB8 to get it dialed into the track, but with the SP1 it's run and gun. XB8 ends up faster for me but takes me longer to get it accustomed to the track. Best of luck with the racing this weekend Hawk. I'm sure you guys will do well. Rob, hopefully we can get some track time on that Jammin of yours some time soon. This rain is KILLING us!!

This is how I roll :D...

Adam, that body is incredible. As you can tell from the body I got from DrV, I love the old style flames and white. You threw in the big drips, looks really kewl.

I had a friend that drove XB8. He loved it and used to kick butt with a OS RG stock motor. It was unreal. He too had a little trouble setting his up if he ran on different tracks. When he got it hooked, though, you really had to work hard to stay with him. He was so smooth and the combo of his drive style and the car was relentless.

The SP2 kit arrived in a UPS sleigh at 8pm. Took it into my laboratory and worked till 12:30 am. Went to bed, got up at 4:45am and drove to the track. We were running it on the track by 8am. The thing really hooked up. Willie had to back off the dual rate on the steering, it was biting too hard and leaning into the turns. After the trans. adjustment, things went well until the shock came apart during warm-up for the B main. I grabbed it and slapped it together best I could and made the start.
We didn't have enough track time to work out all the bugs, when it was on, it was just right, and when it wasn't it was a handfull.

The new longer springs were installed with no spacers. I will be putting the set screws in to set the static height now. It sat up in the air like a praying mantis. I think this is going to be a very good buggy for a while. Lots of potential and I think we are already close to a good setup base.

Wow Hawk...

I didnt realized you race 1/8th scale. I am looking at the SP2 right now. I have been running the MBX-5 for 2 seasons now (new cars each year). I'd hate to make the switch becuase I have so many back-up parts for my Mugen.

I was aslo thinking of going to the Silver State race.. in Las Vegas.. right? The only big races I will run until summer will be the Inoor Gas Champs and probably 1 Pro Series race. Both races will be in Ohio (about 6hrs away).

What car did you run before this SP2? Please keep me posted about this car.

Hey Doc,
My son and I started a little over a year ago racing a Kanai II, RBc5 (bad start) and had a blast. When the winter indoor opened at Delta RC in Antioch we were hooked. It was 110 miles each way every Saturday until march, then they went to the out door track. OMG, what a track Big with huge jumps, all kinds of elevation changes 90degree turn tabletops and a back straight that was alleged to be an engine killer.
We went to an MP777 SP1 for the indoor, the KII was an interesting start but drove more like a truck. We have two SP1s now, set one up with big tires and wheels to try out Truggy racing. What a hoot. So now we are going into the Kyosho truggy (ST-s) as soon as it is available.
We are back indoors and this gives us a chance to work on motor/chassis tuning on a tight technical course. We try everything out and then when the big tracks open in spring we know how things will work. The setup is pretty much ready to be used in serious racing.
We will travel this year some. I think work will be better for me to get away more. I already have my vacation scheduled for the LasVegas.

MBX5 is a good platform, different, some say it is easier to drive than the K car but is not as fast by a hair. I like it and we have been able to work out any problems with it fairly easily. I have had a couple of friends that switched to MP777 and immediately improved their positions in the A mains.
I think there are so many really competative cars out there now that it is hard to make a choice. The truth is you can't go wrong no matter which one you choose if you look at the races like the track where you mostly drive and pick a car that finished in the top ten.

maby if i get a few races under my belt b4 the silver state race i may role with adam and have some fun.

i just bought a jammin x1cr pro. it seems to be a very nice car! However i have only been able to run it in the street 1 time to sed up the servos and the brakes. it has been raining quite a bit here but always only seems to be on practice nights so we cant get out there to run my dam car!! i have had the thing for 3 weeks and still havent been able to run it :(

Rob, my heart goes out to you. To have a new car like that and not be able to put it through its paces must be a real drag. I know that I get down when we don't race for a couple of weekends. Like when they change the outdoor to the indoor, I missed 3-4 weekends of racing. It was painful just walking by the stuff in the garage. We have lots of chances to drive outdoors in the private drive or at the sports complex they have dirt. Some how it still isn't racing.
I can feel my blood pressure come up and I get all jittery when we first get there in the morning and they call open practice. All the motors screaming, dust starts flying and the smell of nitro is just intoxicating. Jump out on the track and let fly. Pretty soon people find other people and little scrimages are taking place all around the track. It is just a natural to some people, no matter where they are, it is race or lose.
Oh well, that time will come and I am sure you will be happy with what you got, I hear they are an excellent choice, the Jammin.
You know, my son has been asking about running the H8 no carpet at the lhs nearby. Maybe that would help.
If you think about it there is always a way to find your fix.

Is that a proline body? How much you asking for that without the flames on the windows and windshield (thats enough to be out of a race in Europe in case you dont know :( )
I tryed to acess to the ebay page and it says its not recognized :o

Hawk, you gona love the way the sp2 handles, stering is awesome and it jumps like a shuttle and really easy too only not so good thing i find is that it still remains a bit of the upnosed behavior of the sp1 while on air but that can be easily compensated with a lil trigger handling ;) another thing you will find is that on really bumpy race tracks you'll have to downgrade the rear shock oil density a lil bit and thats about it...
You're set to win! :D

that body is a proline. and i dont think he can remove the flames and stuff from the windows? you cant race with a body that has on the windows in europe?

plain_simple
12-21-2005, 03:23 PM
i know he cant remove the paint from the windows, the idea wa to do another one just like that without those lil flames and yes.. you cant race any body in Europe or international events if the windows have anything on it... its on the regulations that windows need to be transparent and respect the original design, unfortunately

Yes, so far this is the SP2 is as good as the SP1 was over the Kanai II. The turn in is not as twitchy. It turns hard but looks and feels very stable. I guess the rear end is planted better even though it rotates very quickly. Jumping seem almost perfect to me. Very adjustable in mid air.
That was one of the first comments I received on this chassis, a jump taken badly was corrected with ease to a perfect landing instead of a crash.
It seems to be up in the air a little higher than I want and I will have to work on that, get the CG down a little. The shocks I am looking at some changes there too. I think I will get the chassis to settle down before I try to make that adjustment.
Another day, another tuning challenge. Good luck and have fun.

yeah i do know that Adam :)
think is... those are the colours i use... you also know that ;) but like i told Rob i cant race that body in here or in any international event.
I will shoot you an email as ipost this.

Hawk... up in the air more then you want most times have more to do with the speed that you aproach the jump then lowering the CG but thats my way of seeing it so maybe you're right since i never tried that variable as a way to deal with the problem.. what i usually do is to cut a hairpin of trotthle when the car touches the lip of the jump to keep the car low if thats what i want to happend on a particular jump.. its hard to explain so i hope i was clear enough on this image :o

Plain, yes I understand exactly what you are saying. Yes you are right, that works. But it wasn't just on the jumps, I mean the buggy arms sitting flat have too much down angle. They should be nearly flat or the dog bone flat. I didn't put any spaces on the shocks to raise the body, just the blue springs. It sits too high. Still have to figure out why that is.
I do think the springs are making it jump higher on the jumps with little throttle at the lip. Just another of those little tuning things I haven't had time to work out. I put everything together so fast I may have forgotten something or addes something.
Hey, it's all good.

Those SP2 springs are supposed to be stiffer and longer than the blues from the SP1, correct? Will Mugen springs fit the Kyosho? Try the Mugen greys, they work really well on the tracks around here on my Xray. I've got the regular Kyosho blues on my SP1 and they hook up well too.

plain_simple
12-22-2005, 08:00 PM
The down angle is supposed to be like that due to longer springs. You can also tune that up raising the arms by changing the shocks geometry on the arms holes. I'm sure that playing around with the variables will lead you to how you want the car to be.
Mine is also a bit more down angled then the Sp1 was but i like it a lot and those springs are something else... smooth and hard when needed... i love it ;)
