So, after my hyperion decided to eat the big nasty, I installed my mamba 6800. Within 2.5 hours of runtime, I managed to strip out 2 slipper gears. 1 was on the asphault of my house (no jumps), and 1 was at the ol 1:10 track where the buggy was jumping (sometimes landing upright, we have to fix the bumps and jumps!)

Gear mesh has to be the issue because the mamba comp has roughly the torque of a really fat hamster on one of those wheels... My problem is, meshing with the 3racing motor mount is a pain in the ass. The little screws you use are crap. So, I'm going to try to use these kyosho 3mm flathead (countersunk) washers with some custom screws from my LHS. Hopefully it will hold on better.

My problem with meshing seems to be that the gears grind (too close), until I tighten down the motor mount bolts, and then they aren't meshed at all. With a Ass. 11.T pinion, my motor mount is all the way to the inside.

Also, my front torque rod had popped loose, and managed to bend either my gpm titanium centershafts, or 3racing titanium diff cups, or (maybe) just screwed up the diff gear the cup screws on to.

I've not had the patience to break it down yet.

My XXX-NT did really well yesterday! It ran rich and cool and was a lot of fun! I just got the ad2 chassis on it, as the carbon fiber chassis caused the motor to run WAY hot, although with it being as cold as it was here yesterday, I might have been able to pull it off. *shrug*

*EDIT* Oh yeah, I'll blame the bend shock shaft on the poor condition of the track! Is is possible to buy just the kyosho oil shaft somewhere? A $30 set is out of the question right now.

Any wisdom from the masters of the half 8 would be appreciated.

I remembered another problem I was having, which has been exclusive to the mamba motor. The motor sometimes will go in slow motion when you hit the gas. It is just very slow (about 10mph), but if you let off the throttle and hit it again, it starts going propperly. It rarely happened like that, but did happen.

Another thought, I would recommend the kyosho body over the proline. The proline body looks great, but the front is a pain to get off, plus there isn't as much room under the hood to position things like recievers (while keeping the reciever away from the ESC.)

I had to move my ESC back down beside the motor and the reciever back to the rear top deck to make everything fit cleanly.

Can't wait to get an Aon...

Pimp..

Sounds like you need a graphite chassis and an upper deck. That will fix your gear mesh problems and give you enough room to mount everything. I might have some "scratch and dent" chassis's if you are interested but dont want to spend the full price.

Bigrob: I need the larger gear on the end of the slipper that meshes with the motor pinion. I have an extra of the other one if that is the one you need.

DrVonHoss: I'd love to have one, but I like the stock chassis. I guess I need some graphite top decks. maybe that will help.

BitHed: Yes, it is the front. I don't believe the rears were hurt ( I was doing swan dives off the 6' double! :) ) Let me know what it will run me, and I'll work something out.

Have you checked kyoshoamerica.com? They have a list of the hobby shops that are hooked up with them. You can also call them on the phone too.

Unfortunately, my LHS doesn't stock kyosho anything. I can, however order parts and wait a week for them to get here (SC, from CA). You can call Henry at Ed's Hobby Shop (edshobby.com?) The part number is IH11, so it comes with all the center diff parts too.

Here is the link to find a dealer.

Here is my local hobby shop. Henry is an ass sometimes, and for god's sake dont' tell him I sent you. Shipping costs, and my discount eat his profit on kyosho parts, unless I order $100 worth a time. Needless to say, he was much happier when I was blowing cash on my xxx-nt. haha

Kyosho America's phone number:
800-716-4518

Call them if all else fails. Tell them your a katrina evacuee, and that the H8 is your remaining pride and joy! lol. Maybe don't take it that far, but if no one else will help you, kyosho america is in the business of making a name for itself.

Anyway, let me know if I can help.
