Hello,
For anyone that already has their H8, could you please post the list of aftermarket servos that can be put into the H8 without any type of chassis modification? From what I have read, the H8 comes with different mounting brackets for different servos. We just need a list of what those servos are.
Thanks for the help,
Matt

Cant post the servos, but i can post the sizes! :)

KO/Futaba/Sanwa: 32.5*36*15 mm
JR: 26.5*33*15mm
Hitec: 30*29*13 mm (The HS-85BB/MG would be perfect!)

You have also to change receiver right? The original one uses "normal" servo connector or a custom one? Can I only change servo or have I to change receiver, esc and servo together?
Thanks

Yeah, someone please recommend a good servo for H8. The stock one is kinda noisy and not responsing fast enough.

How about the mini servo by Futaba?

...think high torque, high speed and metal gears...they are your basics...You usually get good torque OR good speed so look for something which is high in both...

...servo speed is loose right from the start...Try to tighten your servo saver and / or check your propo settings...mine is fine...

...I am personally looking at the HITEC 81 MG merely because its cheap and has metal guts in it :) Just m intial thoughts though...Still looking...

...the mini mini FUTABA? The MS-1? i have its measurements at 21.8 x 11.0 x 19.8...

...Lukeita you change one mate and you gotta change em all...

Bro Bithed,

Can you recommend a full set (Brand, model number and price) for use with H8?

BitHed! I think that the HS-85BB/MG would fit better! :) It has the exactly right dimension AND you could get it with metal gears! :D I`ll gonna buy one this week i think...

THANKS for the help with the servo sizes.
I bought the JR DS368. I know its a little pricey but I want the extra torque and the quick response. With the fronts basically the size of 1/10 buggy tires, I though the extra torque would be helpful.

...chrilley you lead and i will follow brotha :D Hitec 85 MG, comes witha bearing in the top and metal gears, hence MG, and the new LRP AI ESC, the most basic version because i am a cheapshot :) I will just use the receiver out of the 18T until i find something cool enuff for my H8...

The HS-85MG has a different mounting setup then the H8. It has a single screw on each end while the H8 has two screws on each end similar to a 1/10 servo.

Here is a link to Tower with a pic: Link (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&W=000270462&I=LXN684&P=K)

I think something else would work better.

...the HS 85 MG has one hole as you correctly notice..There were THREE servo mounts in with your H8..One of them is marked with an H...The measurements of the 85 fit that mount EXACTLY and its the only one that does...well the 85 BB does too but same servo :D

...posted elsewhere too but here again...

Sory BitHed, tought about the BB servo! It was early in the morning and i was at my way to the school! ;) Otherwise, im thinking of getting the HS-85BB and then, when i break a gear in it ill buy a metallgear set! :) Think that the servosaver will take mostly of the smashes so thats not to worry about...

OOPS...my bad. I guess I should open up those plastic bags that came with the buggy and find out what they are all for. :o

Now that I know this....the 85MG will be on my next Tower shipment. Thanks BitHed

The LRP one can only take 8.4V power input... I think GM or Robitronic ESC are the only choices for 9.6V with Forward/Brake/Reverse feature. Any comments on these 2 brands?

Also Tekin Rebel 2 and Mtroniks can handle 9.6v. :)

I'm using my special TNB servo. To most of the world it is a HiTec HS-5125MG without the photos of Tigger & Bennie.

Hopefully, they add at least 18 more lives to the Half Life, I mean Half 8. Then again, there no longer is a Half 8 in the Mini-Inferno. :)

I picked one up at the LHS and it was a flawless install .. the steering response is sooo much better. The install was flwless .. very easy to do ...

I put in the HS-85mg and the turning symmetry and radius both improved. I really want AL stearing carriers and hubs to remove some of the steering slop. The stock setup has way too much play.

I suggest Futaba S9650, it is for 1/12 car. In fact, I think it is the only Futaba digital servo which is for 1/12.

It has fast response and power torque. Perfect for the H8.

I think it is out of stock in Hong Kong, I cannot find it anywhere. So I am using a Hitec 85MG (analog but metal gear) servo for now till I find a 9650.

The original H8 servo having a connector with 4 wires, will an aftermarket servo fit in the slot? I am thinking about a Hitec HS 85MG.

NONE! If you want to change servo, you must change the Receiver... since the H8 stock Receiver and the ESC are the same unit, you must change the ESC as well. That means... ALL electronic stuff on the H8. :D

The Hitec 85MG is a great servo. Can use the servo holder which comes with your H8 without any modification needed. Despite it is analog in nature, it has good troque and fast response. Metal gears inside is definitely a good thing for buggy. As it will be doing lots more rough works than a touring car.

Thks hkopium! Do I have to choose an ESC, a servo and a receiver from the same manufacturer then?

lukeita

No! Receiver and transmitter of the same tecnology (AM, FM, frequency...)
ESC for the motor you like to use (brushed, brushless...)
bye

Not really necessary but it is better to use the same brand for remote control lset. Less hassle and less compatibility problem.

I am using Futaba 3PM Tx/Rx and Hitec 85MG servo, they work like charm. 3PM is digital, but it is okay to install analog servo with digital Rx. Just that some fancy features (setting related) will not be able to use.

NOTE: For HRS feature, a digital servo is a MUST. HRS is like FM or AM, but much faster and accurate in response. Something to do with transmitting 2x data more than FM (or something like that)... Only a few remote control sets support this feature, 3PM, 3PK, EO EX10 and EX1-R (?). A HRS Rx is needed to bought separately, cost around USD65.-

Of course, a digital servo will give you faster response. I suggest Futaba s9650. I am planning to buy one also.

Another servo to consider is the Hobbico CS-35MG (link below):
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&W=000568591&I=LXLN95&P=K

It has metal gears like the HS-85MG but it is faster (.14@4.8v/.11@6.0v versus .16@4.8/.14@6.0v) and it has more torque (55/67 oz-in versus 41.66/48.6 oz-in) and it's about $6 cheaper. It fits right in one of the supplied servo mounts too. I am using it in my Half8 and it works great.

I am using the Futaba digital servo, 9650. I only use digitals now. The radio set is a JR XS3Pro. There is a setting in the transmitter for a fast frame rate to work with digital servos. If that doesn't work out, I have a 3PK with DSM and extra DSM receiver. That works with digitals I know. I still have two R203HF receivers and can put back the crystal controlled module in the 3PK if neccessary.
The JR looks like it will work just fine with the steering. I am still wondering about the esc. I understand there might be a problem getting the esc to setup up end points with high frame rate tx/rx systems. We will see.
