I've been hunting around, looking for a new charger to handle the 8 cell setup. Right now, I use a Dynamite Vision Peak 2 charger...

http://www.rmrchobbies.com/Images-Optimized/visions/2.jpg
120VAC/12VDC Input
4-7 cell Nickle-Cadmium or Nickle-MetalHydride charging
1amp/2amp/4amp charge rates
Fuse protection
Automatic trickle charge

It will peak charge between 4 to 7 cells...but not 8. I'm thinking about picking up the new and improved Dynamite Vision Peak Ultra...which can charge up to 8 cells, including 1 to 3 lipo cells.

http://www.rmrchobbies.com/Images-Optimized/visions/ultra.jpg
120VAC/12VDC Input
1-8 cell Nickle-Cadmium or Nickle-MetalHydride charging
1-3 cell Lithium-Polymer charging
0.1 to 5.0 amp adjustable charge rate for Ni-Cad/Ni-MH
0.1 to 2.5 amp adjustable charge rate to Li-Poly
Input and output curcuit protection
Automatic trickle charge

Or, should I look in a totally different direction? My buddy has a Duratrax ICE charger that everybody seems to like. I just would like to know what you guys are running...it's alot of money to spend and end up possibly making a wrong decision.

I think the dynamiterc.com Ultra Peak charger will do everything you need for up to 8 cells, except for discharging. You can make a discharger for about $5.00 though with Automobile lights and some wire.

I have a Vision Peak Ultra and like it a lot. It doesn't discharge, it can't charge lead/acid but not an issue with me. All the things it does do, it does well with very little effort on my part. I am a nitro person so it is perfect for me. I am thinking about getting another so I can charge the transmitter and receiver batteries at the same time.
If you liked the Vision you have you will probably like the the Ultra too. Oh, it charges LiPo's too. I didn't know I would need that but it has turned out to be a big deal to me now.

Thanks for all of your opinions guys...I decided to order an Ultra...thanks guys. I would have liked to have gotten something that would do cycling, and discharging, but my dad has a charger that will do that...so no big deal there. I'll just snag his once in a while and perform "maintenance".

My main concerns were that it would do 8 cells, and that it did not require a power supply. That brings the list down a little ( in my price range ), and seeing as I had no problems with my Dynamite, why not stick with a company that I'm familiar with right?

The charger should be here the same day the car is...so hopefully I can use it before this weekend! :)

wish i would have seem this sooner...

you gotta try the Duratrax ICE charger - http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHDJ1&P=ML - an incredible charger at a decent price...

its completely adjustable and offers features that are on a level way above the pricing of the charger...NICD, NIMH, LIPO, Li/ION, charge, discharge, cycle, run motors, step charging...

its a nice charger to have if you need to charge various type cells

this is like a Turbo 35/GFx for Micro vehicles :) I've even seen this charger being used at 10th scal levels...

an incredible charger at a decent price...I agree the IntelliPeak ICE Charger is very cool, however you need a 12V Power Supply http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?&I=LXL356&P=V to run it on AC and that adds at least $90.00 to the $130.00 price of the charger. A quick $220.00 before shipping. This charger does have many features, just have to make sure you’re going to use most or all of them to justify the price...just my opinion. ;)

One of my buddies has the ICE charger, and as cool as it is for the price, Hammer is right, I simply could not justify the price of the power supply.

If you see things right you will need a power supply unit sooner or later, even if it is to connect the fans to cool the batteries so getting a charger andddd a power supply is always a good advise... at least thats what i got (Much More CTX Cell Master and Power Master) thing is... before i knew it i was also ordering a Much More Power Station due to all the devices i needed to connect (Novak smart tray, fans, etc etc)

but I'm poor so I bought the vision ultra peak charger. 1-8cell NiCD/MHHd, and 1-3 cell lipo charging with 12v input (car/powersupply) and a wall plug for when your at the shop!

$81 my cost was pretty sweet.
