hey does any1 knw whr 2 get a proper heat sink for the mamba esc? my local shop ask me 2 go for a fan straight. Not really keen on a fan, makes my H8 looks like a computer CPU...i wan 2 look for a normal fin heat sink. Any1 knw where? my esc really heats up fast n hot!!! smell burnt 2....

This is my esc.
I've used 3 cooler master heatsinks for ram.

I took an old video card heatsink and chopped it to the correct dimentions. I then glued it on top of the shrink wrap with some JB Weld / Thermal Paste

I put the heatsinks directly on the fets, then a piece of heat shrink tube all around the esc.
I think that put the heatsink directly to the fets is better than put it above the plastic of the heat shrink tube.

Yeah that works but is your computer overheating now?

ahahah now my computer has become a MINI INFERNO!!! :) :p

haha... I took it off an old useless GeForce 1. :)

The problem with putting it under heatsink is that no airflow will get to it.

I know :( , but I must protect the electronic components from the dust.
I've tried it, and it seems to work fine :)

hey guys thks....now i hv a reason 2 ask my mum nt 2 throw away my old junk computer...lol...i bttr start digging out some heat sink from thr....SH!T my mum just threw away my old sound blaster vid card..... :( oh no.....

hmmm....if i hv a tiny cooler fan, izit good 2 attached it 2 the esc??? whr do i connect the connector? is it to the recv. "batt" pin slot? now i gotta find a way 2 secure the fan 2 he esc.... :( aarrgghhh....my head is spinning...

they make heatsinks with fans already attached for very cheap.

I think I'm just going to put the alloy heatsink from radio shack on it. I've been using a lot of those :)

i will place a pic tomorrow of an esc with heatsink and fan on it. Its quiet simple to do and works really great ;)

Hey Plain....where do you hook up the fan to the esc to pwr it on? How do you attach it and secure it to the esc? I am interested to see the pics :)

just wire it into the power connector, so it is on when the battery is connected, and don't over-draw lipos! =)

I will be running a lipo setup and URC extreme packs. I will likely just stick with some heat sinks.

i use a ram heatshink and the fan attaches on top of it. Connection is done on the rx thru 3rd channel or energy source plug.
I didnt had time to take the pics will see if i can do that today but i'm not promissing anything coz i'm swamped with work :(

How do you guys glue or connect the heat sinks to the top of the FET's? I peeled some of the shrink tubeing off of the Mamba 25 ESC. The heat sink I have is just big enough to cover the middle six(east to west)FET's. How should I attach it to them? I assume I shall use some thermal transfer past but what do I attach them with?

you can use thermal adhesive (I love arctic silver brand).

Just put some silicon grease on all the legs and stuff you don't want the compound to go, then wipe the tops of the chips with an alcohol-moistened cloth. Then put the arctic silver adhesive on the tops of the chips. Just a TINY little bit will work best. Then set the alcohol-cleaned heatsink on top and let it harden. It is a permanent bond, so make sure you get it right!

I use nitro force cleaner (alcohol, methane, butane cleaner) to get rid of the grease after it hardens. Then you are good to go. It would take some serious gearing to overheat the mamba then! haha.

I haven't had a problem with my mamba getting hot yet, just the motor. Even then, it's only when I bog it down in grass that it really gets hot. It really digs the street and dirt.

Radioshack has this little guy that might work. My store stocks it! woot.

Thanks Pimp. Artic silver hugh? Can I get that at the Rat Shack? I am thinking of getting bigger heat sinks to cover all FET's noto just the middle ones.

I've improved the mamba esc performances replacing the stock cables with wider diameter cables (16awg).
Without a doubt there is an increase of the speed of the aon 4900 I use.

I know this is an older thread but I did a search and this was the most appropriate one to post on. I'm running a Mamba 25 ESC with an AON4900kv motor on 11.1volts and my ESC is getting up to 150degrees. Obviously, this worries me. When running on 7.4volt lipo's, it only goes to about 120degrees. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do besides adding a heatsink. Anybody got a pic of a fan mount?

Thats because the BEC transistors of the Mamba cant handle very well the 11.1V. Placing a heatshink is an idea, many people do that, including myself ;)

Placing a heatshink is an idea, many people do that, including myself ;)Mmmm, I have the Mamba 25 ESC and Hyperion 6000kv motor on my RC18T also running 11.1volts and the temperature on it never goes above 120degrees.....I thought maybe my problem had to do with the weight of the MIST and the fact that it has a relatively inefficient drivetrain (when compared to some of the smaller vehicles out there eg. M18T, RC18T, Vendetta).

...Moto nice mod  16g is REALLY big though isnt it? You have inspiried meto change up to 14 though...I bet there IS an increase :D Nice soldering too...

...Purely personal preference but i got rid of the power switch too...No REAL reason why...just a nasty habit i have :o Great work though...

what kind of glue can i use to mount the heatsinks to the mamba esc? I am not an electronics guru so please help me out thanks chris

Previously I've used this with great results, but you need to be careful not to get it on any electrical contacts

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835100005

They also make this product, which isn't a problem if you get it on the circuits themselves

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835100013

The second one is probably better. Either way, remember that it's nearly impossible to remove whatever you attach with it, so take your time and do it right the first time.
